Harper Lee Dead - 'To Kill a Mockingbird' Author Dies at 89

Harper Lee, the author of the acclaimed novel “To Kill a Mockingbird,” has died at the age of 89.

The mayor in Lee‘s hometown of Monroeville, Alabama confirmed her death to NBC News. She had been living in an assisted living facility since 2007, when she suffered a stroke.

Harper had only released one novel until the sequel to her book, titled “Go Set a Watchman,” was published last year. There was controversy over whether the author truly wanted the manuscript to be published, but the book became a bestseller nonetheless.
