Meghan Markle Speaks to Story That She Made Kate Middleton Cry: 'The Reverse Happened'

Meghan Markle is speaking out about her relationship with Kate Middleton on Oprah with Meghan and Harry.

Specifically, Meghan was asked about the story that she reportedly made Duchess Kate cry over her choice of flower girl dresses ahead of her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry.

“The narrative with Kate that didn’t happen was really difficult,” Meghan Markle said in response to this story..

“Did you make Kate cry?” Oprah said.

“No!” Meghan responded.

“Where did that come from? Was there a situation where she might have cried?” Oprah asked.

“No. The reverse happened. I don’t say that to be disparaging to anyone. It was a hard week of the wedding. She was upset about something. She owned it. She apologized. She brought me flowers [and] a note apologizing,” Meghan said. “What was shocking was…six, seven months after our wedding…the reverse of that would be out there in the world. I would have never wanted that to come out about her.”

“A few days before the wedding she was upset about something…about flower girl dresses. It made me cry…it really hurt my feelings,” she said.

“It didn’t make sense to not just…be doing what everyone else was doing. Being supportive.” Meghan mentioned with the stress of the wedding, and what was happening with her dad, Thomas Markle, not coming to the wedding, she was hoping everyone would be supportive.

“She apologized, and I’ve forgiven her. What was hard to get over was being blamed for something that not only I didn’t do, but that happened to me,” she continued.

Meghan wanted to emphasize that she is not being disparaging to Duchess Kate by revealing this story.

“She’s a good person. I think so much of what I’ve seen play out is this idea of polarity. If you love her, you don’t need to hate me,” Meghan said about the differences between them.
