More on Arthur Gunn's Mysterious Absence from 'American Idol': Judges Speak Out

American Idol fans were scratching their heads when they realized Arthur Gunn was missing from the show’s season finale last night after previously being announced to perform.

The Idol contestant made it to the Top 7 on the current season after being the runner-up last year. He was the winner of the comeback competition this year and earned his place in the Top 10.

Arthur was supposed to sing two songs with guest star Sheryl Crow, but when the performance happened, Top 16 finalist Graham DeFranco was on stage with her and it didn’t look like they had much rehearsal time together.

Some more details have been revealed about the mysterious disappearance and judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie are all speaking out

Luke revealed that Graham was only at the finale to be in the audience, but then they unexpectedly asked him to perform. It’s still not clear what exactly happened to Arthur.

“He literally came to cheer,” Luke said (via USA Today). “He was there to support Chayce, and we’re pulling him out of the crowd going, ‘You’re gonna sing with Sheryl Crow.’ And he’s like, ‘Hell yeah!’”

Lionel said that the judges “don’t even know what happened” with the situation and Katy added that Idol is a “spicy show.”

There’s another development that makes it seem like Arthur‘s ties to the Idol family might have ended. The Top 2 contestants on Idol will be performing on Live! with Kelly and Ryan and they’re letting fans vote for one more contestant from the Top 10 to join them. Arthur is not included on the list, even though he was in the Top 10.
