Beanie Feldstein's 'Funny Girl' Co-Star Reveals How She Handled All the Drama

Jared Grimes, the Tony-nominated star of Funny Girl on Broadway, was asked about how his former co-star Beanie Feldstein handled the drama and backlash that came her way during her run as Fanny Brice.

Here’s just some of what happened while Beanie was starring in the show.

When the show opened earlier in 2022, the production didn’t get the best reviews and was almost entirely shut out at the Tony Awards (apart from Jared‘s nomination.)

In June 2022, it was announced that Beanie was leaving the show and that her final performance will be on September 25. However, a month later, Beanie abruptly announced that she was leaving the show earlier than anticipated, and the next day, producers revealed that Lea Michele will become the new Fanny Brice on September 6.

The producers of the Broadway show then spoke out about the drama that ensued. Beanie also explained her decision to step away much earlier than ancitipated.

While on The Broadway Podcast network’s hit show The Art of Kindness, hosted by actor & journalist Robert Peterpaul, Jared was asked about how Beanie handled everything.

Jared replied, “She’s super strong. I mean she’s super duper strong and she’s been through a lot and you would never even know. I think to see somebody that’s battle tested in that way and is still able to be secure with themselves and lead with kindness. I mean I learned so much. You really see what somebody’s made of by the way that they handle those ups and downs.”

He continued, “You can choose to be a victim or you can choose to use those ups and those downs to fuel you in the direction of your dreams even more. She’s an example of somebody who’s had all the weight of the world on her since she stepped into the industry and she’s handled it in some of the most standup ways that I’ve ever seen anybody handle anything. I’ve learned so much from Beanie Feldstein and I hope that we all can learn from how strong of a person she is and will continue to be.”
