Andrew Lloyd Webber's New Musical 'Bad Cinderella' Will Debut on Broadway in 2023, Lead Actress Revealed!

Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s Cinderella musical is finally heading to Broadway – and with a new title!

Bad Cinderella will debut at the Imperial Theatre in February 2023 with newcomer Linedy Genao in the lead role.

Andrew was joined by Linedy for the announcement on Monday morning (October 3) at the Imperial Theatre in New York City.

The new version of Cinderella premiered on London’s West End in 2021 and it features a book by Academy Award winner Emerald Fennell and lyrics by Tony winner David Zippel, in addition to music by Lloyd Webber.

Here is the synopsis: “This modern retelling of the classic fairytale is set in the exceptionally beautiful kingdom of Belleville. Our Cinderella is no longer the damsel in distress who needs saving. She finds herself and her prince in new circumstances which cause them to rethink what ‘happily ever after’ really means.”

Linedy said in a statement, “I have been dreaming about originating a leading role on Broadway for just about my entire life, but never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine achieving that dream alongside Andrew Lloyd Webber and such an incredible team of collaborators. As a proud Dominican American, I am most excited about this opportunity to represent my community and show the world that fairy tales do come true — and are for everybody. My heart is bursting.”

Preview performances for Bad Cinderella begin on February 17, 2023, one night before the closing performance of Lloyd Webber‘s classic musical The Phantom of the Opera. He will continue to be represented on Broadway!
