Lea Michele Reveals What Barbra Streisand Wrote in a Letter She Sent to 'Funny Girl' Theater

Lea Michele is currently starring in the first Broadway revival of Funny Girl since Barbra Streisand‘s original production closed in the 1960s.

In a new interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Lea revealed that she recently heard from Barbra through a letter the icon sent to the theater.

Lea opened up during a late night appearance on Monday (December 5) in New York City.

“I got to work the other day and my dresser…had this, like, gold envelope. It was, I don’t know, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, like getting invited,” Lea said. “And I just knew, and I was like, ‘Is it from Barbra?’ And she said it was. And it was very sweet, she wrote me this beautiful letter. But one thing she said in it…She was like, ‘It’s really wonderful when your dreams come true, isn’t it?’ And I just, like, fell to my knees and I called Ryan Murphy, my mom, Jonathan Groff and Michael Mayer. These are the people that need to know.”

Lea said she thought she was being pranked and found a way to confirm the letter was authentic.

“I know that my co-star, Ramin [Karimloo], had gotten a letter from her when the show first opened, because he knows her. He’s performed with her before. So I snuck into his room, found his copy of his letter, and then just made sure that the writing was the same. And it was. So that was all I needed,” she said.

During the appearance, Lea also performed the song “I’m the Greatest Star.” Watch both videos below!

FYI: Lea is wearing a Solace London look for the performance. She’s wearing a look by TOTEME and The Row for the interview.
