Drew Barrymore Defends Hugh Grant's Demeanor Following His Uncomfortable Oscars Interview With Ashley Graham

Drew Barrymore is sharing her opinion of Hugh Grant‘s much-talked about interview with Ashley Graham from the 2023 Oscars.

If you haven’t watched it, during the interview Hugh responded to most of Ashley‘s questions with short, blunt answers, sparking backlash from fans.

Ashley has since reacted to the awkward interview.

Now though, Hugh‘s former co-star, Drew, is seemingly defending his demeanor.

Drew opened up about Hugh during the most recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, stating that Hugh was just being himself during the interview.

“If you know Hugh, that is his way of loving you,” she said after watching the interview. “People are like, ‘Oh, he’s such a curmudgeon and she’s so thrown.’ I’m like, no, that is Hugh Grant. You think you’re getting this charming movie star and what you really get is grumpy Hugh. And then you fall in love with grumpy Hugh.”

Drew went on, saying that “when he says that, I’m telling you, he is being absolutely funny. He doesn’t mean one negative thing about it. The person that Ashley Graham met on that carpet is the real Hugh.”

She also revealed that when she actually first met the actor, it took her a minute or so to get used to his behavior.

“Probably like Ashley Graham on the carpet, like, ‘who am I dealing with?’ And then I was like, oh, no, I love you. I want to love you. You’re not letting me love you,” Drew explained. “As I got to know him, I was like I do love you. I love you for the real you. He is a hilarious, good human being.”
