Shakira Addresses Her Singing Voice Changing Over the Years & Which Comedian She Wanted to Write English 'She Wolf' Lyrics

On the origin of Dónde Están los Ladrones? album title:

“When I was like 21 I had written a whole body of work and it got lost at an airport in bogota. I had all my lyrics in my dad’s briefcase…and I think that it just disappeared at the airport and that’s why I named that album, Where Are The Thieves? after that story. I had to reconstruct all of the lyrics in my head and I was able to after a great deal of effort.”

On her $1 million Cobra stage prop:

“I remember on my first world tour Tour of the Mongoose I had the brilliant idea of coming up with a cobra…huge cobra in the middle of the stage and it would just lift up like that at the beginning of the show. And that cobra cost like a million dollars to fabricate, to reproduce and then taking it on the road was so expensive, that at the end of the tour I lost money. And it was one of my most successful tours…but I had to take a big loss because of the stupid cobra.

On her voice in her early eras:

“I think I used to overdo the cries in my voice (sings) you know it’s too much. I think it was exaggerated…too much Shakira. And I noticed that after my pregnancies my voice got thicker, more rounded, more full. Also my choices are more mature. I have evolved as a woman, as a person. My intellect has evolved.”

On wanting Seth MacFarlane to do the English translation for “She Wolf”:

“I was a huge Family Guy fan and I always thought that he was so creative and so musical as well. I really admire the musical production of the show so I looked for him but then I ended up writing it myself. I found the right words, I found what I wanted to say.”

She also recently made headlines revealing why her sons didn’t like Barbie.
