Lashana Lynch in Final Negotiations to Play This Character in 'Matilda' Musical Movie

It looks the Matilda movie musical has found its Miss Honey!

Lashana Lynch is in final negotiations to join the cast of the upcoming movie adaption of the musical heading to Netflix, The Hollywood Reporter reports.

The 33-year-old British actress is best known for playing Maria Rambeau opposite Brie Larson in Captain America and will be appearing as the new 007 in the upcoming James Bond movie No Time to Die.

Embeth Davidtz played the kind-hearted teacher that befriends Matilda in the 1996 film adaption of the Roald Dahl book.

Back in May, it was reported that Killing Eve star Jodie Comer was in talks to play Miss Honey in the Matilda musical movie, but it appears that plans fell through.

Early last year it was reported that Ralph Fiennes signed on to play the role of school headmistress Miss Trunchbull, a role in which men in drag have played the part in the stage musical.

Matilda The Musical will be directed by Matthew Warchus, who helmed the Broadway and the UK’s West End shows. The original story was told in Roald Dahl‘s 1988 book.

Lashana Lynch Responds to Backlash for Her 007 Role in 'No Time to Die'

Lashana Lynch is starring alongside Daniel Craig in the upcoming James Bond movie No Time to Die and she has faced a lot of backlash after her casting was announced.

The 32-year-old actress, best known for playing Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel, plays Nomi, who is rumored to inherit the 007 title from James Bond in the movie.

Lashana thinks any other Black actress would have received the same criticism had they landed the role.

“I am one Black woman — if it were another Black woman cast in the role, it would have been the same conversation, she would have got the same attacks, the same abuse,” Lashana told Harper’s Bazaar UK. “I just have to remind myself that the conversation is happening and that I’m a part of something that will be very, very revolutionary.”

“I feel very grateful that I get to challenge those narratives,” she added. “We’re moving away from toxic masculinity, and that’s happening because women are being open, demanding and vocal, and calling out misbehaviour as soon as we see it.”

Watch the trailer for the upcoming movie, which will be released in April 2021.
