Phylicia Rashad Says She Was Misquoted on Bill Cosby Defense

Phylicia Rashad is speaking out in a television interview after she was quoted as saying comments like “forget these women” to defend her former TV husband Bill Cosby, which she says were misquoted.

“That is not what I said. What I said is, ‘this is not about the women. This is about something else. This is about the obliteration of legacy,’” the 66-year-old actress said in her World News Tonight interview.

“I am a woman,” Phylicia continued. “I would never say such a thing.”

When asked to comment on the accusations that Bill is facing, she said “I can’t speak to those things and wouldn’t want to.” She did say that “what has happened is declaration in the media of guilt without proof.”

Phylicia Rashad Defends Bill Cosby: 'Forget These Women'

Phylicia Rashad is speaking out for the first time about the sexual assault allegations being made about her The Cosby Show on-screen husband Bill Cosby.

The legendary actress played the role of Clair Huxtable on all eight seasons of the sitcom and she is defending Bill against the claims.

“Forget these women,” Phylicia told Showbiz411. “What you’re seeing is the destruction of a legacy. And I think it’s orchestrated. I don’t know why or who’s doing it, but it’s the legacy. And it’s a legacy that is so important to the culture.”

When asked about claims made by Beverly Johnson and Janice Dickinson, she replied “Oh, please.”

“Someone is determined to keep Bill Cosby off TV,” Phylicia added. “And it’s worked. All his contracts have been cancelled… [The Cosby Show] represented America to the outside world. This was the American family. And now you’re seeing it being destroyed. Why?”
