A bit more info from the Brad and Angie cover story in People

    http://www.thefrisky.com/post/246-tabloid-cheat-sheet-072110/

It seems like it’s been ages since Angelina Jolie defended herself against the constant tabloid criticism, but Angie finally talked to People! Angie talked about how weird it was going back to work on “Salt,” after taking 18 months off to care for her twins but is so happy with her family: “Brad’s an extraordinary father. We have each other’s backs. Brad knows me completely, exactly as I am, every part of me. He loves me. The kids love me. They know all of my flaws and oddities. And they accept them. And so I can feel complete.”The producer of “Salt” said that the rumors were silly: “You never saw any fights. It got to the point where [the gossip] was almost amusing if it hadn’t been so mean.” Angelina said of her twins, “I begin each day listening to Viv and Knox talking. They always wake up first and have the cutest conversations when they think everyone is still asleep.” But Angie says she’s not looking forward to the brooding years. “I’m not ready. I’m glad I have a few more years. I’m not ready for them driving or dating. I break out into a sweat at just the thought… Our plan is just to have really great relationships with our children, so when we hit that time where they don’t want to talk to us, we’ve instilled some good values already, we’re working on it now.”

ANOTHER GREAT REVIEW OF ANGELINA IN SALT!!

Angelina Jolie spends much of her time either running or shooting as Evelyn Salt in the contemporary action thriller Salt. Courtesy Columbia Pictures
    _

    Director: Phillip Noyce
Starring: Angelina Jolie, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Daniel Olbrychski
    _
If you look at the seductive poster for Salt, you might wonder whether Angelina Jolie is a female James Bond or the spy thriller genre’s latest twist on the Bond Girl.
    _
    She’s both.
    _

She looks like a new era’s secret agent as she dons disguises and changes hair colour to elude Russians and Americans while double agents with assassination agendas (she’s one of them) pursue the warring superpowers’ leaders.
    _

In its steely grey palette of the Cold War, Salt, the new summer thriller, seems like a potboiler from an earlier generation, a look back at the chilling relations of a more open belligerence between the United States and the Soviet Union. Its story, set in 2011, is far more chilling, in fact, than those relations ever were.
    _

What’s new here is that the battle is being fought by Evelyn Salt (Jolie), an intelligence agent who takes a backseat to no man as she is chased, beaten and shot at, after a Russian spy identifies her as a Kremlin sleeper agent. (She also stands up to vicious torture by North Koreans.)
    _

The fact that we don’t know which side she’s on for most of the movie is beside the point. You watch her the way you’d watch a star athlete. That’s no exaggeration. You’ve never seen a spy – male or female – spend so much time running.
    _

Salt was originally conceived as Edwin A Salt, and Tom Cruise was expected to play the lead. As Bond and Bond Girl, Jolie is one of the boys, leaping from elevated roadways on to the top of a truck, and then on to another, and then on to a motorcycle. (She is reported to have done her own stunts, thanks to plenty of CGI wonders.)
    _

Yet she’s also a heart-throb, at the ready for soft close-ups (and grimaces), which add unexpected texture as they modulate the pace of this solemn rough-and-ready thriller. There’s no doubt that she was the better casting choice.
    _

Under Phillip Noyce’s competent but unadventurous direction, we get a gritty drama of intrigue and betrayal, surging with the twists and turns of Kurt Wimmer’s script.
    _

That script serves Jolie better than it serves the fine English actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, a mistrustful CIA officer in the stiff Denzel Washington mode, or the Polish veteran Daniel Olbrychski, in the role of a Russian agent whom you’ve seen many times before.

    _

You have no doubt that the film was written (and regendered) for Jolie’s character. And the actress finds enough emotional depth to keep Salt from being a mere action decathlon. As thrillers go, this one is more Bourne than Bond, more rapid pacing than suspense leavened with laughs. Suaveness is sacrificed for acrobatics and pyrotechnics, although the Russian agents in Salt wear boots with knives concealed in their toes, in an homage to the 1963 Bond classic From Russia with Love.
    _

Salt is a movie about fundamentals, not quirkiness. Jolie is here to prove that a woman spy can run and fight and kill with the male action stars. She clears that hurdle, just as she did as Lara Croft and Jane Smith. In the sequel that’s sure to follow, we might get some surprises.

Brad Pitt To Star In ‘World War Z

Comic-Con is barely underway in San Diego and we already have some big news from the show floor!

While chatting up “World War Z” author Max Brooks at the booth for comic publisher Avatar Press, the writer confirmed to MTV News that the adaption of his novel about the zombie apocalypse is not only moving forward, but Brad Pitt is now officially attached to star in the film. Additionally, Brooks revealed that Paramount has optioned the movie rights to two more of his projects: “The Zombie Survival Guide” and “The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks” graphic novel.

Pitt’s production company Plan B Entertainment first secured the rights to “World War Z” back in 2007 after a bidding war with Leonardo DiCaprio’s company, Appian Way. The actor has long been rumored as a potential lead for the film, but Brooks received the call confirming Pitt’s attachment (and the other “Survival Guide” deals) while signing copies of the books at the Avatar booth tonight (Wednesday, July 21) during Preview Night at Comic-Con.

“I can’t believe how cool Paramount has been to me and these projects, and how cool Plan B has been,” said Brooks when asked for his reaction to the news.

According to Brooks, the studio is currently targeting a Summer 2012 release for the film, which chronicles a worldwide zombie outbreak through the first-hand accounts of survivors. The original screenplay was penned by “Babylon 5″ creator J. Michael Straczynski, but was later rewritten by Matthew Michael Carnahan.

Brooks said the studio recently received a new draft of the “World War Z” script, and “Quantum of Solace” director Marc Forster is still attached to direct the film.

“I’m glad they took their time, and are trying to make the best zombie movie they can,” said Brooks. “I’m so glad they stayed with the project and so glad they found the right team.”

Pitt and Jolie expected to settle

    July 22, 2010

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are expected to settle their privacy claim against the News of the World.

The Hollywood superstars are not expected to attend the brief hearing at London’s High Court before Mr Justice Eady.

In February, their solicitors, Schillings, said they had launched proceedings against News Group Newspapers Ltd over false allegations published in January.

These claimed the couple had visited a divorce lawyer in December 2009 to begin thrashing out a deal and had concluded an agreement dividing their £205 million joint assets and providing for custody and visitation rights for their six children.

The lawyers said the publication constituted a serious misuse of private information.

“In this case we can confirm unequivocally, and upon instructions, that the allegations published by the News of the World are false as well as intrusive.”

ANGELINA IS GETTING RAVE REVIEWS ABOUT HER ACTING IN SALT!
    _

REVIEW: SALT AND ANGELINA JOLIE DELIVER THE ACTION-PACKED SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER GOODS!…(PAGE TWO)…

    _

    http://www.movieline.com/2010/07/review-salt-angelina-jolie-deliver-the-action-packed-summer-blockbuster-goods.php?page=2
    _

Jolie is great fun to watch — for style and grace, she’s the closest we’ve got to a modern-day Errol Flynn or Burt Lancaster — and Noyce makes sure she looks her best.
    _

The action in Salt is shot and edited so cleanly that it makes the movie feel like a miracle of modern-day action filmmaking. There’s no choppy, rapid-fire cutting.
    _

Instead, Noyce and his editors, Stuart Baird and John Gilroy, connect the visuals into thrilling but logical mosaics — we always know who’s coming from where, and more often than not, that who is Jolie, running, jumping or sprinting into action.
    _

Noyce has made his share of action thrillers (he’s the director behind the Tom Clancy adaptations Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger), but he’s pulled off more serious, emotionally complex material too (like his meticulous and thoughtful version of Graham Greene’s The Quiet American).
    _

Salt is, of course, closer in style to the former than the latter; still, Noyce approaches the material with a healthy sense of humor. The subject matter alone is likely to give moviegoers of a certain age a pleasant shiver of Cold War nostalgia, and Noyce runs with that. (The Cold War wasn’t so much fun while it was going on, but as much as we feared that the Soviets might someday come over and liquefy our buildings, they never actually did so.)
    _

Touches like Orlov’s dumpling-thick Russian accent, or the way Salt wraps herself in a swishy fur-trimmed cape, topped off with a Dr. Zhivago toque, are served up with a sly wink.

    _

And yet Noyce takes Jolie and all her capabilities seriously. We’re meant to enjoy her kung-fu kicks and rock ‘em-sock ‘em punches. But her face is the real secret weapon here, and Noyce never loses sight of that.
    _

The plot twists of Salt unfold with delicious silliness, but Noyce gives his star a moment of great emotional gravity — we’re allowed to witness a horrific event, but how we might feel about it is inconsequential. Noyce trains the camera on Jolie’s face, and across a span of mere seconds, we see a color-wheel of emotions — horror, suppressed pain, anger and resolve — drift across it.

    _

Salt is entertaining without being lame-brained, intelligent without resorting to tricks and gimmickry. But even though it exists squarely within the framework of summer entertainment, Noyce allows his star, and us, to make an emotional investment in the proceedings.
    _

Salt is over before you know it — I gasped when the credits started rolling, because I thought surely there must be more. That’s when I realized how inured I’ve become to action-movie climaxes that rattle on turgidly for 10, 20, even 30 minutes.
    _

Noyce, on the other hand, won’t have Salt outstaying her welcome, and he has no qualms about setting us up for a Salt II. Whatever she’s leaping onto or into next, he trusts that we’ll want to follow.

  • ohwell

The way I look at it – after that ridiculous story on X’s self-thrown b-day party – Peeps owed the J-P fans a cover…even if they didn’t have a new interview. I told myself I would never buy Peeps again…but this week they’re up against that stupid US cover, so yeah, I’ll buy Peeps if it helps contribute to poor sales numbers for US.

Both that the movie is finally ready to proceed and mostly that BRAD is starring. I assume he will play the reporter (Max Brooks as himself). There are so many vignettes adn therefore so many roles – each would be incredible for some of the best actors. Each story wouldn’t take that long to shoot so they may be able to entice some really great names to participate.
