James Marsden: I'm Just a Goofy Nerd Despite My Model Face!

James Marsden is smoldering hot on the cover of Out magazine‘s September 2013 issue, on newsstands August 20.

Here is what the 39-year-old The Butler actor had to share with the mag:

On his good looks: “I know I have a face like a model. But I’m actually just a goofy drama nerd underneath.”

On the types of roles he looks for: “I’m actually less comfortable being the smoldering hot guy. I’d rather play a goofball or a rube than a steamy leading-man role. I’ve never been that guy – I was a skinny loner in high school.”

On thinking The Notebook would fail: “I never set out to make a bad movie. Some movies just turn out bad, and I want to scream, ‘Why did you pick that take?!’ Then there are some movies that I’ve been in that I was sure people would laugh at, that have become huge. I thought The Notebook was going to be a schmaltzy Movie of the Week�”type thing, and here we are!”

On turning down Magic Mike: “So far, I’ve been incredibly fortunate in the roles I’ve been offered. Sometimes I worry that I’ll stop getting offered these ‘break in case of emergency’ sell-out parts.”
