'Scandal' Star Killed Off in Brutal Death Speaks Out (Spoilers)

SPOILER ALERT – Do not continue reading if you haven’t watch the latest Scandal episode!

There was a shocking death on the April 20 episode of Scandal that no fans saw coming. It turns out that the star who was killed off asked to be let go from the series in order to pursue a new business opportunity.

The star killed off becomes only the second series regular to be killed off the show. Columbus Short‘s character Harrison was killed after the actor’s contract was not renewed following domestic abuse claims in his real life.

Portia de Rossi‘s character Elizabeth North, Mellie Grant’s chief of staff, was killed off the show. The murder happened during a meeting that Mellie and Elizabeth were having with the Mystery Woman (Zoe Perry) and her boss Peus (David Warshofsky).

Mellie (Bellamy Young) told them that she was not scared of them and they decided to put some fear in her by having the Mystery Woman smash in Elizabeth’s head with a golf club. They told Mellie that they got her the votes to be the next president and if she tried to cede to Cyrus (Jeff Perry), they’d kill her children. Clearly fearful now, Mellie agreed to work with them and was told the Mystery Woman would now be her chief of staff and be running the presidency.

So, why did Portia decide to leave the show?

“It was my decision but not because I no longer wanted to be part of the show,” she told THR. “It was more because I found a great business opportunity I wanted to pursue that was taking my interest away from acting and a career I’ve had for 20-plus years and putting it elsewhere that was very timing consuming. I approached Shonda and asked if it would be OK if I could leave Scandal. She was nothing but supportive and wished me luck in my business venture and was gracious and lovely about it.”

When asked about the new business she said, “It’s a little premature to talk about at this point but it’s along the lines of my earlier passion for art and to get art into the hands of anybody who wishes to own it.”

“It’s what I wanted to do with my career a long time ago and then I fell into acting,” Portia added. “Now I really have returned to the idea of having a business and being a business owner and having my love of art being incorporated into my business venture. There is technology that enables more people to enjoy art rather than a very privileged few. This business concept is to democratize art and get it into the hands of the people who appreciate it and want to own it.”
