9 Titles Have Been Banned From Netflix Over the Years - Find Out Why

One Episode of Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj

In 2019, one episode of Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj, titled “Saudi Arabia,” was removed in Saudi Arabia after the Saudi Communication and Information Technology Commission requested that Netflix take it down.

The show currently has five seasons that are streaming elsewhere around the world.

If you watch the video above, you can see a preview for that very episode. The episode dissects the United States’ relationship with Saudi Arabia in the wake of the death of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, and examines the connection between American weapons and the mass starvation and destruction occurring in the Saudi-led war in Yemen.

There was some confusion years ago when the episode was removed and many believed that the show was removed from platforms across the globe. However, Netflix quickly clarified that is not the case and the episode is still available at this time.

At the time of the removal in 2019, Netflix said, “We strongly support artistic freedom and removed this episode only in Saudi Arabia after we had received a valid legal request — and to comply with local law.”
