Dax Shepard Was Once Banned From This Late Night Talk Show

Dax Shepard is opening up about how he was once banned from appearing on Conan O’Brien‘s talk show for years after an interview gone wrong.

The 46-year-old actor recalled what had happened to him the day of his interview for Blake Griffin’s Audible podcast “The Pursuit of Healthiness”.

Opening up about how his addiction affected his career, Dax recalled how his ban actually happened.

“Professionally, the only wreckage I really had while I was an addict was, I went on Conan and I had done the pre-interview in a blackout and I woke up to the hotel security shaking me awake, and I was with a stranger and the stranger had peed the bed, or I had peed the bed, someone had peed the bed,” he recalled.

Dax continued, saying that he only had 20 minutes from getting woken up to being on the show. His publicist had to convince a security guard to open his room.

“And I show up on the show, I don’t know what he’s talking about. I can tell he’s cueing me up for stories I’ve told but I don’t know any of the stories,” he says. “So, I’m just doing what I can to be funny out there and I am a mess.”

Dax admits that while the audience was okay with the appearance, Conan thought it was a disaster.

“I didn’t know any of the stories. I broke a coffee table,” he remembered. “So, I was banned from that show for some years, until I got sober.”

After getting sober, Dax has returned to the show “a bazillion times.”

Dax has been very open with his addiction battles lately, and wife Kristen Bell even revealed that they keep drug tests in their home now.

He’s also talked recently about sharing his relapse with their daughters.
