Eddie Murphy is opening up about one of his iconic movies.

On Monday (March 1), the 59-year-old actor and his collaborator Arsenio Hall promoted their upcoming movie Coming 2 America on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

During the interview, the two said they were “forced” by Paramount Pictures to cast a white actor in the original Coming to America, which was released back in 1988.

In the movie, Emmy-winner Louie Anderson was cast as Maurice.

“I love Louie, but I think we were forced to put Louie in it,” Arsenio told Jimmy. “We were forced to put in a white person.”

Eddie then chimed in, recalling Paramount execs allegedly insisting Coming to America not feature an all-Black cast.

“They were like, ‘There has to be a white person in the movie,’” Eddie recalled. “I was like, ‘What?’ So who was the funniest white guy around? We knew Louie was cool, so that’s how Louie got in the movie.”

Arsenio added, “It was official. I had a list. They gave me a list with three white guys. They said, ‘Who would you rather work with?’ I said ‘Louie.’”

Eddie, Arsenio, and Louie will all be reprising their roles for the Coming 2 America, which will be released on Amazon Prime Video on March 5. Check out the trailer here!

Coming 2 America is coming!

The highly anticipated sequel to the beloved 1988 comedy Coming to America is arriving on Amazon Prime Video on March 5, and a new trailer arrived on Wednesday (February 3).

The movie stars Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall reprising their roles as Prince Akeem and Semmi. The two actors will also reprise their roles of the My-T-Sharp Barber Shop’s Clarence, Saul and Morris as well as Reverend Brown and Randy Watson, lead singer of the band Sexual Chocolate.

Here’s a plot summary: “In the sequel, directed by Craig Brewer, newly-crowned King Akeem and Semmi embark on a new adventure that has them traversing the globe from Zamunda, back to Queens.”

Original cast members returning including James Earl Jones, Shari Headley, John Amos and Louie Anderson, while new additions to the cast include Wesley Snipes, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, Jermaine Fowler, Bella Murphy, Rotimi, KiKi Layne, Nomzamo Mbatha and Teyana Taylor.

“Coming to America was a cultural phenomenon that is one of the most loved and celebrated comedies of all time. Thanks to Eddie Murphy’s comedic genius along with the brilliant filmmakers, writers and fabulous cast, we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate this new adventure. Here’s a synopsis: Set in the lush and royal country of Zamunda, newly-crowned King Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and his trusted confidante Semmi (Arsenio Hall) embark on an all-new hilarious adventure that has them traversing the globe from their great African nation to the borough of Queens, New York – where it all began.

Jermaine Fowler, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, KiKi Layne, Shari Headley, with Wesley Snipes and James Earl Jones also star.

Eddie Murphy, Leslie Jones and Kiki Layne are set to star in the upcoming Coming to America sequel!

Leslie is still in negotiations, while Kiki is set to join Eddie on the project, which is called Coming 2 America, according to THR on Wednesday (August 7).

Production is set to begin later in August on the follow-up film, directed by Craig Brewer.

The new story “sees Akeem, now set to become king, discovering he has a son he never knew about, a street-savvy Queens native named Lavelle. Honoring his father’s dying wish to groom his son as a new crowned prince, Akeem must once again return to America.”

Wesley Snipes is in the cast, as well as Arsenio Hall to reprise his role as Akeem’s right-hand man. James Earl Jones will return as Akeem’s father.

Leslie‘s role is being kept under wraps, while Kiki will play Akeem’s daughter, “burdened with feeling like she is the son her father never had.”

The movie is set to be released on December 18, 2020.

In addition to attending, John also performed at the star-studded event.

Chord Overstreet, Josh Henderson, Emily Osment, Haley Joel Osment, Terry Crews, Rebecca King-Crews and Carrie Ann Inaba were all in attendance at the event as well.

The event was co-hosted by Arsenio Hall and George Lopez, and included a pre-show dinner party and post-show food trucks to celebrate the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation.

In the 2018 season, more than 10,000 youth will participate in the fifth anniversary season of Dodgers RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities), and LADF will achieve its goal of completing its 50th Dodgers Dreamfield.

Sinead O’Connor is apologizing to comedian Arsenio Hall for making claims that he provided the late Prince with drugs.

The 50-year-old singer had implied that Arsenio contributed to his April 2016 death.

“I apologize for my Facebook posts about Arsenio Hall to the extent that anyone thought I was accusing him of acting as Prince‘s drug dealer and supplying him with illegal hard drugs, or insinuating that Arsenio had something to do with Prince‘s death,” she told TMZ.

Sinead added, “I sincerely apologize because those statements would be false, and I retract them unequivocally.”

Arsenio has since dropped his $5 million libel lawsuit against her.
