Benedict Cumberbatch Talks the Media, His Future in Theater, & His Slipper Collection

Benedict Cumberbatch strikes a pose on his new cover for Interview magazine!

Here’s what the 41-year-old Sherlock actor had to share with the mag:

On whether or not he trusts easily: “You do [have to], and sometimes you don’t. Sometimes during a conversation with a journalist— where you are answering things you never normally talk about, not even with some of your closest friends—you end up being quite confessional, and you don’t think about the amplification of that. No matter how fancy these journalists are, they have editors or political leanings behind their publications, which means that, basically, they’re going to shape what you’ve said into an article they’ve already written.”

“So you have to be really careful with your words. I still find that difficult, as any person who deals with the press will tell you. That’s why it’s nice, with this one, to talk to a friend. But sometimes with a coffee and a friendly smile, I suddenly start talking without thinking about how it’s going to be read.”

On doing theater again: “There are plans afoot in the not-too-distant future, but not this year.”

On how many slippers he has: “Too many.”

Benedict Cumberbatch's 'The Current War' Pushed to 2018 by Weinstein Company

The upcoming movie The Current War starring Benedict Cumberbatch is no longer being released this year amid the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

The film was set to be released by The Weinstein Company on November 24, right in time for awards season. Now it will be out in theaters sometime in 2018, according to Deadline.

Benedict spoke out against Harvey‘s alleged actions this week.

“I am utterly disgusted by the continuing revelations of Harvey Weinstein’s horrifying and unforgivable actions,” he said. “We need to collectively stand up and support victims of abuse such as the brave and inspiring women who have spoken out against him and say we hear you and believe you.”

Benedict Cumberbatch Is 'Utterly Disgusted' by Harvey Weinstein

Benedict Cumberbatch is speaking out to express that he is “utterly disgusted” by disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein‘s alleged actions.

The 41-year-old Oscar-nominated actor stars in the upcoming movie The Current War, which is being released by The Weinstein Company this year.

“I am utterly disgusted by the continuing revelations of Harvey Weinstein’s horrifying and unforgivable actions,” Benedict said in a statement to Vanity Fair. “We need to collectively stand up and support victims of abuse such as the brave and inspiring women who have spoken out against him and say we hear you and believe you.”

“That way others may be emboldened by our support to come forward and speak,” he added. “But we shouldn’t wait until there are any more stories like this. We, as an industry and as a society at large, need to play our part. There has to be zero tolerance of any such behavior in any walk of life. We owe that to these women’s bravery in coming forward.”

Benedict Cumberbatch Brings 'The Child In Time' to London

Benedict Cumberbatch is giving a first look at his upcoming TV movie The Child In Time.

The 41-year-old actor attended a screening of the film on Monday (September 18) at BAFTA in London, England.

He was joined by his co-star Kelly Macdonald as well as the film’s director Julian Farino.

The film follows a children’s book author whose life is turned upside down when his daughter goes missing.

“During the day, it’s pretty exhausting. You have to take of yourself, it’s a very dark place to go to. It’s basically breaking down for an entire day… but that’s what the drama demands, and it’s a very human experience that [my character] goes through,” Benedict recently said of the role.

He added, “The pain of what that must be like for people who experience that is unfathomable, so you don’t want to bring that into your own domestic space.”

The Child In Time is set to premiere on September 24th.
