Eva Mendes & Ryan Gosling Are Struggling to Teach Their Kids Spanish

Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are having a hard time teaching their children Spanish!

The 45-year-old The Place Beyond the Pines actress opened up about her and the 38-year-old La La Land actor’s daughters – Esmeralda, 4, and Amada, 3 – in a new interview with The Talk.

“I’m Cuban and we’re trying to teach the kids Spanish, and it’s harder than I thought,” Eva said. “I speak Spanglish and that’s what they’re picking up. So it’s adorable but it’s technically not a language. It’s Spanglish.”

She added, “Our little girl will be like, ‘Mommy, my boca [mouth] hurts because I think something got stuck in my diente [tooth.]‘ It’s so cute but that is not really going to go great out there.”

Eva also shared that the only reason she changed her mind about never wanting kids was, “Ryan Gosling.”

“I was never one of those women who really wanted children, and then I fell in love with Ryan,” she explained. “I was like, ‘Oh I get it. I don’t want children, I want your children. I want your babies.”

Eva, Ryan, and the two girls met some alligators, sloths, lemurs, a Capuchin monkey, Aldabra tortoises and a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig, who apparently only knows Spanish! The girls were also given a gift of a painting of Peanut, a 13-year-old orangutan.

Joining the family were Eva‘s mom, a security guard, and a nanny. Sounds like fun!

Eva made her first public appearance in six months over the weekend at an event.

Eva Mendes' Family Takes Over When They Visit Esmeralda

Eva Mendes is up close and personal on the cover Glam Belleza Latina‘s Fall 2015 issue.

Here is what the 41-year-old actress had to share with the mag:

On visits with her family: “When my mom and sisters visit, they take over the house. They take my baby! They start cleaning everything! They sound like a bunch of hyenas, yelling in Spanish, English, Spanglish. They sing [my daughter Esmeralda] all these Cuban nursery songs that I forgot my mom used to sing to me. They’re like a raucous crew…. It’s incredible. I really appreciate my family, now more than ever. I’m so happy that my little girl gets to grow up with this.”

On the rise of Latinas in Hollywood: “It’s a great time. I remember reading scripts when I started in the business, nearly 15 years ago, and [Latino roles] were either nonexistent or written as the maid or a drug dealer. We’re no longer just that. I’ll play any part that challenges me. What’s important is that all races have choices.”

On connecting with fans on Instagram: “That is 100 percent me. It actually breaks my heart when I can’t respond. I love connecting with women; it’s fun for me. I come from a huge family of women, and I’m super close to the girlfriends I’ve had since I was 12 years old. And as you can see, all my businesses are geared toward women…. I was in a New York & Company design meeting recently, and I was unsure about a print. I decided to ask for feedback on Instagram. One lady said, ‘It depends on how it falls on the body.’ So we looked at it and said, ‘You know what? She’s totally right, because if this leaf falls by the boob, it’s going to be weird.’”
