Matt Damon on His Longtime Friendship with George Clooney: 'He's Got A Huge Heart'

Julianne Moore is all smiles as she poses alongside her Suburbicon director George Clooney while making their way out of Hotel Excelsior during the 2017 Venice Film Festival on Friday morning (September 1) in Venice, Italy.

The 56-year-old entertainer and Julianne, also 56, were followed closely behind by Suburbicon co-star Matt Damon, who recently opened up about his longtime friendship with George.

“Sure, he’s changed. He’s evolved, but he’s the same in a lot of critical ways. In all the important ways, he’s the same; he’s got a huge heart, he’s incredibly loyal, and he’s really, really smart,” Matt told THR. “He’s changed his career, in a way. When I met him, he was just coming off ER; he was known as this massive TV star. People didn’t understand how talented he was; they just thought he was this really handsome, matinee-idol TV star.”

“Now the perception of George is as big a movie star as you can get, an A-list director, an Oscar-winning producer. He’s somebody whose opinion I really value,” Matt added. “If I’m working on a script, I’m sending it to him for notes; if I’m doing a movie I’m showing him a cut and asking for suggestions. In baseball, they would call it a five-tool athlete – just somebody who can do everything. He’s an easy guy to hate, I guess!”

FYI: Julianne is wearing a Prada dress.

George Clooney Talks About Becoming a Dad at 56

George Clooney and his wife Amal welcomed their newborns, Ella and Alexander, back in July and he’s speaking about what it’s like being a father to twins.

“I just have to clean the barf off of my tux,” the 56-year-old actor told USA Today about attending the Venice Film Festival this week. “It used to be my barf but now it’s the twins’ barf. So it all works out.”

“Suddenly, you’re responsible for other people, which is terrifying,” George continued. He then gushed about his wife, saying, “She’s like an Olympic athlete. She’s doing so beautifully.”

“Right now my job is changing diapers and walking them around a little bit, I really didn’t think at 56 that I would be the parent of twins. Don’t make plans. You always have to just enjoy the ride,” George said.

Josh Brolin Cut From George Clooney's Upcoming Film 'Suburbicon'

Josh Brolin had to unfortunately be cut out of the new movie directed by George Clooney, Suburbicon.

In a statement, George told EW that Josh‘s scenes were the funniest in the whole movie, but they just didn’t work.

“We shot a couple of scenes with Josh [playing] a baseball coach that are really really funny,” George told EW. “But after we did our first screening, the one thing that became really clear to me was that [the scenes] let the air out of the balloon, in terms of the tension in the film. I had to write him this awful note where I just said, ‘You’re not going to believe it. but these scenes really don’t work any more.’ He felt bad, and he thought maybe something went wrong, and I said, ‘I’m sending you the scenes, so you can see, they’re actually the two funniest scenes in the movie.’ I remember sitting there with the editor going, ‘F——-ck! I can’t believe this!’ But I’ve sort of been in the same situation. I did a bunch of scenes in Thin Red Line and then got a call from Terry [Malick], saying, ‘We’re cutting out everything except the very last scene.’ I was like, ‘Please cut me completely out of the movie! Don’t leave me in one scene!’ But, [on Suburbicon], it is one of those where we were just, like, ‘There was no option.’ He was so great in the film. I never like talking about those kind of things because it can be really unfair to an actor, except to say he was just absolutely great in the movie.”

Suburbicon stars Matt Damon and Julianne Moore and will hit theaters on October 27. Watch the trailer if you missed it!

George & Amal Clooney Partner with UNICEF to Help Refugees

George and Amal Clooney have partnered with UNICEF to help open seven school for Syrian refugees.

The Clooney Foundation for Justice just announced a $2.25 million partnership with UNICEF to fund seven schools in Lebanon to help 3,000 currently out-of-school refugee schoolkids.

“Thousands of young Syrian refugees are at risk – the risk of never being a productive part of society,” George, an actor and activist, and Amal, an international human rights lawyer, said. “Formal education can change that. That’s our goal with this initiative. We don’t want to lose an entire generation because they had the bad luck of being born in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
