Everyone is buzzing for Birkin bags.
The highly prized, much sought-after Hermès bag is known for being extremely rare.
It originated back in the 1980s, named after the late actress Jane Birkin, and has since been released in many different colors and configurations.
As opposed to luxury bags, a Birkin generally cannot simply be bought at the store: customers instead are invited by Hermès sales associates to have the opportunity to purchase one in-store, and it’s never a guarantee that they’ll be granted access. There are plenty of forums exchanging tips about ways to build up a rapport with the stores to be allowed to buy a bag. Noted stars and collectors alike, including Kylie Jenner and Jeffree Star, have all shared their experiences with trying their luck.
Instead, many collectors seek out Birkin bags on the second-hand market, as well as partaking in auctions to secure the bag – with the prices often being way, way more expensive than the retail price. Some of the versions of the Birkin go for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
