Michael Phelps Suspended From Swimming for 6 Months After DUI Arrest

Michael Phelps has been banned from swimming professionally by USA Swimming after his second DUI arrest last month.

“Membership in USA Swimming, and particularly at the National Team level, includes a clear obligation to adhere to our Code of Conduct. We endorse and are here to fully support his personal development actions.”

Any swimmers hoping to win medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics better not get their hopes up as Michael Phelps has announced he is coming out of retirement!

The 28-year-old athlete is a 22-time Olympic medalist and he has set his first competition since the 2012 London Olympics for later this month at a meet in Mesa, Ariz.

“I think he’s just going to test the waters a little bit and see how it goes,” Michael‘s longtime coach Bob Bowman told the Associated Press. “I wouldn’t say it’s a full-fledged comeback.”

Michael started training again back in the fall and reentered the U.S. drug testing program. It is mandatory to wait six months before being eligible for competition.
