Grey's Anatomy's Sara Ramirez Comes Out as Bisexual

Sara Ramirez came out as bisexual while giving a speech at the 40 to None Summit on Saturday morning (October 8) in Los Angeles.

The 41-year-old Grey’s Anatomy actress, who is married to husband Ryan DeBolt, shared her truth in her speech.

“So many of our youth experiencing homelessness are youth whose lives touch on many intersections – whether they be gender identity, gender expression, race, class, sexual orientation, religion, citizenship status,” Sara said. “And, because of the intersections that exist in my own life: Woman, multi-racial woman, woman of color, queer, bisexual, Mexican-Irish American, immigrant, and raised by families heavily rooted in Catholicism on both my Mexican & Irish sides, I am deeply invested in projects that allow our youth’s voices to be heard, and that support our youth in owning their own complex narratives so that we can show up for them in the ways they need us to.”

On Grey’s, Sara played the role of Dr. Callie Torres, who also identifies as bisexual.

Shonda Rhimes Addresses Sara Ramirez's Exit from 'Grey's Anatomy'

Shonda Rhimes is opening up about actress Sara Ramirez‘s exit from the hit drama Grey’s Anatomy after ten years as a series regular.

The series creator and showrunner said that she found out about Sara‘s departure only three days before it was announced and it was not planned into the storyline.

“This one was different because it wasn’t a big planned thing,” Shonda said at the Vulture Festival (via Us Weekly). “I had a different plan going and when Sara came in and said, ‘I really need to take this break,’ I was lucky that we’d shot the end of the season with her going to New York.”

“I felt really good that we had shot that ending and that she said she wanted to take this break and we were able to give it to her because I love the woman and I want to do everything for her. It all worked out in that sense,” she added.

I send my love to Ellen [Pompeo], the rest of the cast and crew, and I look forward to always being a part of the Shondaland family!” she wrote.

Show creator Shonda added, “Dr. Callie Torres came into our lives dancing it out in her underwear almost a decade ago and I could not be happier or more proud of her journey.
