Chelsea Handler Shades James Corden & Ellen DeGeneres in Critics Choice Awards 2023 Opening Monologue

Chelsea Handler did not hold back!

The comedian is hosting the 2023 Critics Choice Awards held at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel on Sunday (January 15) in Los Angeles.

Well, she mentioned James Corden, seemingly alluded to Ellen DeGeneres, mocked Nick Cannon, and more.

“The cast of The Bear is here. Awesome show,” Chelsea said during her monologue. “They showed us how grueling and absolutely miserable working in the restaurant industry can be. And they didn’t even have to wait on James Corden.” This, of course, references James‘ viral situation where he was publicly banned from a very famous restaurant.

Chelsea then brought up Viola Davis and her work in The Woman King, saying, “As part of Viola‘s training for the film, she was given a DNA test to determine the best workout regimen for her genetic makeup. Which also coincidentally revealed that she is Nick Cannon‘s daughter.”

Chelsea added, “In the movie Tar, Cate portrayed an iconic lesbian whose career is affected by her toxic behavior,. And she didn’t even have to host her own daytime talk show.” This seems to be a reference to Ellen DeGeneres‘ massive backlash she faced a few years back, thought Chelsea did not name her.

Chelsea then moved on to celebs and their weight, adding, “The word gaslighting was actually Merriam-Webster’s word of the year. And for those of you who don’t know, gaslighting is when someone tries to convince you that your own perceptions of reality are wrong. Like, when celebrities say they lost weight by drinking water but really it’s because everyone’s on ozempic.”

She continued, “Even my housekeeper’s on ozempic.”
