Melanie Lynskey Calls Out Adrianne Curry Over Her 'Last of Us' Character

Adrianne Curry, apparently, isn’t convinced that Melanie Lynskey can handle a role like Kathleen on The Last of Us.
The former America’s Next Top Model winner shared her opinion about Melanie‘s performance of the character on the mega popular HBO series, and it wasn’t met with praise.

In her initial tweet, which has since been deleted, Adrianne wrote that Melanie as Kathleen wasn’t convincing to her because of the way she looked.
“her body says life of luxury…not post apocolyptic warlord. where is linda hamilton when you need her?” she wrote.
After seeing what Adrianne wrote, Melanie chose to respond, and had a really good response.
“Firstly—this is a photo from my cover shoot for InStyle magazine, not a still from HBO’s The Last Of Us,” she first pointed out. “And I’m playing a person who meticulously planned & executed an overthrow of [government agency] FEDRA. I am supposed to be SMART, ma’am. I don’t need to be muscly. That’s what henchmen are for.”
Continuing on, Melanie said that she understands “that some people are mad that I’m not the typical casting for this role”, but “that’s thrilling to me.”
“Other than the moments after action is called, when you feel like you’re actually in someone else’s body, the most exciting part of my job is subverting expectations.”
Following Melanie‘s response, Adrianne doubled down on her opinion of Melanie in the role.
“Actors taking character criticism as personal attacks is mind blowing,” she wrote in her follow up.
Adrianne then added, “I’m not allowed to say I didn’t find the fictional character believable due to her soft voice, small stature and curvy frame. Fictional. Not real.”
In another tweet to a fan, she responded, “Next up, Jason Mamoa will find my criticism of his portrayal of AQUAMAN and will put me in my place with a strongly worded tweet on why he IS the perfect Arthur Curry.”

I’m so grateful to Craig and Neil for creating a truly new character. Someone I have never seen before. And for trusting me with her. And for letting me be on THE MOST AMAZING SHOW

Other than getting to work with creative geniuses who I respect and admire (Neil & Craig) the thing that excited me most about doing #TheLastOfUs is that my casting suggested the possibility of a future in which people start listening to the person with the best ideas
