A royal source is explaining why the royal family did not publicly acknowledge Princess Lilibet‘s birthday, which landed on Sunday (June 4).

The Princess turned two years old. Fans are fueling a lot of theories about the optics of the royal family not publicly wishing the young Princess a happy birthday. The royal family social media channels often do wish members a happy birthday. In fact, they publicly wished Lilibet a happy birthday last year.

A royal source is telling ET, “It has never been protocol to share formal birthday wishes for non-working members of the royal family or their children on the official channels. Any such birthday wishes would be shared privately.”
