Why Is Track 5 on Every Taylor Swift Album So Important? Every Song's Meaning Revealed!

“Cold as You”
Taylor Swift

Sample lyric: “Oh, what a shame, what a rainy ending given to a perfect day / So just walk away, ain’t no use defending words that you will never say / And now that I’m sitting here thinking it through / I’ve never been anywhere cold as you.”

The song details a girl’s experience with an emotionally unavailable guy. She told Rolling Stone that this is her favorite song on the album.

“I wrote this song with Liz [Rose], and I think the lyrics to this song are some of the best we’ve ever written. It’s about that moment where you realize someone isn’t at all who you thought they were, and that you’ve been trying to make excuses for someone who doesn’t deserve them. And that some people are just never going to love you. We were halfway through writing this when I started singing ‘And now that I’m sitting here thinking it through, I’ve never been anywhere cold as you,’” she said on her website.

“White Horse”
Fearless

Sample lyric: “That I’m not a princess, this ain’t a fairytale / I’m not the one you’ll sweep off her feet, lead her up the stairwell/ This ain’t Hollywood, this is a small town / I was a dreamer before you went and let me down / Now it’s too late for you and your white horse to come around.

“It talks about falling in love and the fairy tales that you are going to have with this person, and then there is that moment where you realize that it is not going to happen. That moment is the most earth shattering moment,” she told Billboard of the song’s meaning.

“It’s one of the songs that I am really proud of on the record because it’s so sparse—it’s guitar, piano, and cello. It talks about falling in love and the fairy tales that you are going to have with this person, and then there is that moment where you realize that it is not going to happen. That moment is the most earth-shattering moment,” she explained.
