We’re moving into a new era of Superman with James Gunn‘s Superman: Legacy, but Henry Cavill‘s portrayal of the iconic hero holds a special place in our heart.

To so many fans, it seems like the role was made for the actor, who first played Clark Kent in 2013′s Man of Steel. However, he had to audition for it just like any other actor, and he faced some stiff competition by the sounds of it.

While doing some research, we stumbled across an interview where director Zack Snyder revealed his second choice to play the iconic superhero.

Jesse Eisenberg brought the villain Lex Luthor to life in the DC film universe, and the role has been passed off to Nicholas Hoult.

The 34-year-old actor will play the character in Superman: Legacy, a decision that was confirmed in December by director James Gunn.

While attending the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, Jesse revealed that he had some words of advice for his successor.

Phoebe Dynevor made a brief comment about auditioning for the role of Lois Lane in James Gunn‘s upcoming movie Superman: Legacy.

If you don’t know, the Bridgerton star was actually one of the frontrunners for the role. She ended up losing the role to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel‘s Rachel Brosnahan.

Now, Phoebe is making a brief comment about the audition process and not landing the role.

Nicholas Hoult is our newest Lex Luthor!

The 34-year-old Renfield star will play the supervillain in Superman: Legacy, director James Gunn confirmed on Monday (December 11).

“Yes, finally I can answer, @nicholashoult is Lex Luthor in #SupermanLegacy and I couldn’t be happier,” he said.

“We went out to dinner last night to celebrate and discuss how we can create a Lex that will be different from anything you’ve seen before and will never forget. ‘But, James, we heard this weeks ago, why didn’t you tell us it was true?’ Because, although we were discussing it, it wasn’t final until a couple days ago and I don’t want to tell you all something that isn’t certain. Anyway, here’s to Lex (and Nicholas!), one of my very favorite characters in the DCU.”
