Joaquin Phoenix got support from longtime love Rooney Mara at the premiere of Joker!

The couple, who walked the carpet separately, stepped out for the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival event on Monday night (September 9) at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto, Canada.

They were also joined at the premiere by Joaquin‘s co-stars Zazie Beetz, Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy and director Todd Phillips.

Later in the evening, Joaquin attended the TIFF Tribute Gala, where he received the TIFF Tribute Actor Award.

The upcoming movie Joker has taken home the Golden Lion Award, the top prize at the 2019 Venice Film Festival!

Joaquin Phoenix and director Todd Phillips were on hand to accept the award during the festival’s closing ceremony on Saturday (September 7) in Venice, Italy.

The runner-up award, the Grand Jury Prize, went to controversial director Roman Polanski‘s new film An Officer and a Spy.

Rooney Mara is joined by her fiance Joaquin Phoenix while posing for a photograph at Miu Miu Women’s Tales: #18 “Brigitte” Film Dinner held during the 2019 Venice Film Festival on Sunday (September 1) in Venice, Italy.

The 38-year-old Oscar-winning actor and the 25-year-old actress were joined at the event by Once Upon a Time‘s Margaret Qualley, Men in Black: International‘s Tessa Thompson, Chloe Sevigny, Little Women‘s Eliza Scanlen, and Joaquin‘s Joker director Todd Phillips.

Also in attendance at the special dinner were Rebecca Dayan, Alia Shawkat, Euphoria actress Hunter Schafer, The OA star Brit Marling, Penny Dreadful‘s Billie Piper, Ma actress Diana Silvers and festival hostess Alessandra Mastronardi.

Rami Malek and Lucy Boynton were also spotted hitting the carpet at the Miu Miu event.

Earlier in the weekend, Joaquin Phoenix and his fiancee Rooney Mara hit the red carpet at the big Joker premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

Joaquin stars as the titular character in the new film and he is getting rave reviews for his work. While audiences at the festival have already seen the movie, the rest of us will have to wait until it hits theaters on October 4.

The three stars were joined at the event by producer Emma Tillinger Koskoff.

During the press conference, Joaquin talked about why he decided to make the project. He said it was because “we were going to approach it in our own way. I didn’t refer to any past iterations of the character. It just felt like it was our creation.”

“I think what was so attractive is he’s so hard to define and you don’t really want to define him. There were times I would find I was identifying certain parts of his personality and then I would back away from that because I wanted there to remain a kind of mystery. Every day felt like we were discovering new aspects of the character,” he added (via Deadline).

The couple was joined by Todd Phillips, the director of Joaquin‘s upcoming movie Joker.

A report surfaced a couple weeks ago that Joaquin and Rooney are engaged after three years of dating.

The upcoming Joker movie is a new take on the Batman villain and it will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival this month. The movie hits theaters on October 4.

Joaquin Phoenix‘s haunting take on The Joker is revealed in the first poster for the character’s new origin film, simply titled Joker.

The 44-year-old actor is transformed into the classic Batman villain in the poster, with his hair slicked-back and his face painted with white makeup and a red clown smile.

Director Todd Phillips shared the poster on Instagram Tuesday (April 2). “Teaser trailer tomorrow. #JokerMovie,” he captioned the poster, announcing the film’s teaser trailer premiere.

The iconic villain has been portrayed by a long roster of A-list stars, including Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, and, most recently, Jared Leto.

“[Everyone has] their expectation, and they’ve imagined things in their head, and they’ve imagined different actors, and suddenly you take it on and so there’s this moment of anxiety of, ‘Did I live up to their expectations?’” Joaquin told Collider in July of taking on the role. “And at some point, you have to just own it and say like ‘I can’t consider who they might have thought up before or what the movie was for the six months ago, this is what it is now and I have to find my way into it.’”

Joker hits theaters on October 4.
