Joan Rivers Still On Life Support, Says Daughter Melissa - Read the Latest Statement

Joan Rivers is still on life support in the hospital in New York City, her daughter Melissa Rivers has said.

“On behalf of my mother and our family, we are extremely grateful for all the love and support we’ve received. At this time she does remain on life support,” Melissa said in a statement to The Wrap. “I know my mother would be overwhelmed by the continued outpouring of kindness and I want to thank everyone for keeping us in their prayers.”

There were reports floating around that Joan was being taken out of her medically induced coma.

We continue to have Joan and her family and friends in our thoughts during this difficult time.

I’m starting to get confused with these conflicted reports. so she is still life support?

  • kel

Agree^. DM says she is on the road to recovery. Conflicting and confusing
    reports.

  • Nikki

I wouldn’t wish that on anyone, not even Joan Rivers. It’s too bad it took a coma to finally shut up that annoying woman. She was never funny, just annoying. She was also a well-known racist. I know a lot of local guys & girls in my own hometown who are way funnier than her.

@kel: Actually DM got that report from E News. E News tries to pretend they have inside information on everything when most of the time they are just making up stories.

Here is the story E News they posted yesterday:
“It’s a slow process, but she’s on the road to recovery,” a source close to the situation tells E! News exclusively. “She’s getting better. Don’t believe all this ridiculous speculation.”

Thanks Allison. i’ll believe a family member over stupid E and the Daily Fail.

Anyone with any idea of how things really work in these types of situations knows that Ms. Rivers was put on life support at the same time she was put into a medically induced coma. That’s to reduce the amount of oxygen her brain needs in case it was damaged from the temporary lack thereof during the incident. Also prevents swelling of the brain in these cases. Her family said she was “resting comfortably” when in fact she was practically under general anesthesia (‘medically induced coma”). I guess that’s “resting comfortably.”

Now that they are easing up in the medications that are keeping her under, they are watching for her to start breathing again, and will remove the “life support” if they see that she can breath again on her own. If she can, then comes the slow recovery (or not).

To Nikki: Whether You liked her or not, Ms. Rivers is a celebrity and an icon/pioneer in women’s comedy. Her dry wit, cynicism and seemingly cruel humor is what helped her break barriers in comedy, that during her earlier days was dominated by (and mostly restricted to) males. People that see her as ‘annoying and racist’ likely have no sense of her type of comedy and are taking her jokes way too seriously. Life is not about being politically correct or fitting in all of the time. She embraces and lives by that belief, and her career has reflected that. Comedy is essential to allow us to see and speak about things in more ways than simply ‘boring’ or nice all of the time. Your nasty comments about this woman are not not funny or relevant. They are hypocritical. Best of luck to you (and you funnier friends) in making even the smallest mark on this life as her.

what an ugly comment for someone to say about Ms Rivers in a time
like this. You need to think of her daughter and her grandson. I love
joan Rivers. I love to see her on QVC. I hope to see her standing
there again talking about her fashions. She is so full of life. She is
the most beautiful 81 yr old I have ever seen. I want her to pull out
of this so badly. She deserves a second chance at life. My prayers
are going out to her, Melissa and Cooper. I know they are Jewish
but I am praying in Jesus name for a full recovery. She is too
young at heart to leave us now!

@ Nikki……..I find this comment to be DISRESPECTFUL, offensive, rude, insensitive and hateful. At a time like this, knowing Joan Rivers may die once taken off life support. How callous and insensitive you are and a RACIST I might add. Shame on you. Karma has a way of coming back at you. God forbid, you may find yourself or a loved one in this very tragic situation.

  • Pauline

I’m not a big fan either of Joan’s either but please NEVER wish I’ll will on anyone. Karma!

  • Pauline

Meant “Ill will”. Again, Even though I’m not a fan, I’m sending lots of prayers to her and her family. GOD Bless.
