“I didn’t know Fred could write this well, I didn’t know he could direct as well, and he blew my mind,” John told 11 Alive. “He knew this guy Moose that’s actually loosely based on a real guy and he wrote it with me in mind. He just knew I could portray this guy.”

John Travolta said that Fred would ask him questions about his character to prep him for his role behind the scenes.

“He would ask me questions about Moose. ‘How are you doing today, Moose? Did you run into anybody? What do you think of so-and-so?’ And he would ask me two or three minutes of improvisation and I feel it and, bam, we start filming,” John explained.

John Travolta Re-Enacts His Iconic Roles in 'Travolt-Off' Challenge with Jimmy Fallon!

John Travolta brought some of his most unforgettable roles back to life on last night’s (August 15) episode of The Tonight Show!

The 65-year-old actor participated in a game called “John Travolt-Off” with host Jimmy Fallon where the two recreated several iconic scenes and dance moves from famous Travolta films, such as Grease and Pulp Fiction, to determine once and for all who is the best Travolta.

John easily slipped back into the slick Danny Zuko from Grease: “Well, that’s cool, baby,” Travolta said. “You know how it is, rockin’ and rollin’ and whatnot.”

John later reprised his intense role from Face/Off where he and Nicolas Cage‘s characters swapped faces.

Later during his appearance, John Travolta hit the couch and chatted about how he ended up in a cameo for Pitbull‘s music video for “3 to Tango,” reveals how Fred Durst used improvisation to direct him in The Fanatic and teaches Jimmy some new dance moves.

John recently shared his thoughts on upcoming Grease prequel Summer Nights.

John Travolta Shares His Thoughts On 'Grease' Prequel: 'It's A Little Risky'

John Travolta isn’t too sure about the upcoming Grease prequel Summer Nights.

The 65-year-old actor shared his thoughts about the upcoming film, which is set to tackle that fateful meeting of Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson.

Grease itself, no matter whether you do it in a high school production, a college production, or a TV production or the original movie, is a perfect piece of entertainment. That’s what I think,” John said on The Talk.

He contained, “If you repeat that perfect piece of entertainment you always succeed, when you go away from it, then it’s a little risky. But then if you are clever enough, I’d imagine you could make it work. But that’s yet to be seen. How do you do that? No one can describe the magic of Grease.”

John Travolta Talks Being a Stage Dad to Daughter Ella Bleu: 'I'm Ridiculous'

John Travolta is such a stage dad!

The 65-year-old Grease star and his 19-year-old daughter Ella Bleu, who star in The Poison Rose together, made an appearance on The Talk on Friday (May 24).

“I am ridiculous. I’m behind the camera mouthing every word she says, doing her moves. My wife, Kelly [Preston] gets hysterical watching me watch her, because I just want it to go great…she hadn’t acted since the film with Robin [Williams], and they gave her the most complicated scene. Four in the morning, she had to cry, hold a gun, consider all sorts of things, and she nailed it. And the crew gave her a big applause. I said, ‘Well, she’s on her own.’ She got to deliver, and she did,” said John.

“It actually helped so much knowing that he was there…he would come up in between scenes…and then I would know that I had him behind the monitor, just watching, making sure it was good,” said Ella.
