Marion Cotillard Premieres 'Rust & Bone' in Cannes

Marion Cotillard arrives at the Rust & Bone (De Rouille et D’os) premiere during the 2012 Cannes Film Festival on Thursday (May 17) at Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France.

The 36-year-old French actress – joined by director Jacques Audiard and co-stars Mattias Schoenaerts and Armand Verdure – walked the red carpet after attending a photo call earlier in the day.

“What could have been simply bizarre, sentimental or contrived here becomes an utterly absorbing love story; Rust & Bone is a tale of a miraculous friendship which evolves into an enthralling and moving romance, wonderfully acted by Marion and Matthias,” The Guardian‘s reviewer wrote.

FYI: Marion is wearing a Dior dress with Chopard jewelry.

Marion Cotillard Covers 'The Hollywood Reporter'

Marion Cotillard graces the cover of The Hollywood Reporter‘s latest issue.

Here’s what the 36-year-old French actress had to share with the mag:

On getting offered a role in The Dark Knight Rises from her Inception director Christopher Nolan: “I’m like, ‘Wait a minute, his next movie is supposed to be Batman!’ And I’ve always been obsessed with Batman.”

On growing up: “I really didn’t know how I would spend my life. I didn’t like anything about myself – my looks, my personality. I was very, very angry … I was living in an HLM [the projects in Paris]. I come from ‘la cite.’ That’s who I am. As they’d say here, ‘I’m still this girl from the Bronx.’”

Public Enemies director Michael Mann on Marion: “I knew she was a great artist. But what I found with her was it’s all about the work, all about the commitment. Her energy evolves from this devotion to acting as an art. You don’t want anything else.”

Marion Cotillard: First Look at 'Rust & Bone'

Check out Marion Cotillard in the first still released from Rust & Bone!

The 36-year-old French actress stars in the film based on a compilation of short stories by Craig Davidson. Directed by Jacques Audiard, the movie is set to release during the Cannes Film Festival in May.

In addition to the first official photo, a synopsis was released:
“It begins in the north. Ali (Matthias Schoenaerts) finds himself with Sam, 5 years old, in his arms. Sam is his son, but Ali scarcely knows him. With no home, no money, and no friends, Ali goes to live with his sister in Antibes. There, things get better — she shelters them in her garage, she takes care of the baby, and the weather is beautiful. After a fight at a night club, Ali’s destiny is crossed with Stephanie’s (Cotillard). He takes her back to her place and leaves her his phone. He’s poor; she is beautiful and confident. She’s a princess. Everything is against them. Stephanie is a killer whale trainer at Marineland. Something would have to go terribly wrong with the show for a phone call in the middle of the night to reunite the two. When Ali finds her, the princess is in a wheelchair: she lost her legs and her illusions about life along with them. He helps her, simply, without compassion, without pity, and she begins to find life again.”
