Former Oscars Host Seth MacFarlane Explains Why the Academy Could Have a Hard Time Finding 2019 Host

Seth MacFarlane, who hosted the Oscars back in 2013, is explaining why it’s hard to find a celebrity who wants to take on the job.

“Look, it’s a gig that has all eyes on it. And when you’re doing something that’s that much in the spotlight, with that much focus on it, that much intensity, you’re going to have a lot of opinions from a lot of people. I’m trying to think of the last time that I read a review of the Oscars the next day where everyone is raving about it—it’s been a long time,” Seth told EW.

“The thing about award shows in general is, it’s kind of a dusty format. It’s a format that’s about as current as the 1950s variety show format. There’s always an effort to make it interesting and exciting to viewers who are used to a very different entertainment landscape in the modern era, and it’s often times fitting a square peg in a round hole. So it’s not an easy job, and I’m not surprised that they have a tough time finding takers,” he continued.

He added, “It’s fun! It’s a fun gig. I’ll tell you that much.”

Kevin Hart was lined up to host the Oscars but stepped down over some unearthed, controversial tweets.

The 2019 show will air on Sunday (February 24), and rumors are swirling that the Academy is having a hard time locking in a new host.

Sienna Miller & Seth MacFarlane Join Cast of Upcoming Roger Ailes Series!

Seth MacFarlane and Sienna Miller are joining the cast of the upcoming Showtime limited series about the life of former Fox News head Roger Ailes.

The casting announcement was made on Friday (October 12).

Simon McBurney and Annabelle Wallis are also joining the eight-episode series, which focuses primarily on Ailes, played by Russell Crowe, in the last decade of his life, “when Fox News was ascendant in the cable-news wars while he faced multiple accusations of sexual harassment and other inappropriate behavior.”

The miniseries is based on Gabriel Sherman‘s book, The Loudest Voice in the Room.

Naomi Watts will star as Gretchen Carlson.

Sienna play Roger’s wife, Beth, who raised their son Zachary and edited a small newspaper in Garrison, New York while he built Fox News.

Seth MacFarlane Donates $2.5 Million to NPR After Tweet About Fox Network

Seth MacFarlane is donating $2 million to NPR and $500,000 to Los Angeles’ NPR membership station, KPCC after his viral tweet about Fox News.

It all started when CNN’s Brian Stelter tweeted, “Isn’t this sad? Tonight @TuckerCarlson told his viewers not to believe ANYTHING they learn from his rivals: “If you’re looking to understand what’s actually happening in this country, always assume the opposite of whatever they’re telling you on the big news stations.”

Seth responded on his Twitter account, “In other words, don’t think critically, don’t consult multiple news sources, and in general, don’t use your brain. Just blindly obey Fox News. This is fringe shit, and it’s business like this that makes me embarrassed to work for this company.”

“We are deeply appreciative of the generous gift from Seth MacFarlane, which will go to supporting local news coverage, allowing NPR and Member stations to continue working together to tell the story of the whole country from everywhere in the country,” a NPR spokesperson told Deadline.
