Tamron Hall Defends Interview With Disqualified 'Drag Race' Contestant Sherry Pie

Tamron Hall is defending a controversial new interview.

The 50-year-old The Tamron Hall Show host interviewed disqualified RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant Sherry Pie (real name Joey Gugliemelli) on Tuesday (February 16).

“I’ve been a reporter for 30 years, and I’ve conducted and watched interviews with people who have done bad things. I’ve interviewed rapists, I’ve interviewed murderers … it’s not giving away your platform; it’s called an interview. And people who do bad things are interviewed,” she explained amid backlash.

Sherry Pie was disqualified from the VH1 competition after multiple men publicly accused him of posing as a casting director to coerce them into doing various things for a role in a show that did not exist, including encouraging steroid use and partaking in sexual acts on camera, among other allegations. He admitted to the allegations and apologized for the behavior.

“We believe the men who’ve gone on record about Sherry Pie. We believe in being fair, and we don’t give free passes– I don’t give free passes,” she went on to say.

“We’ve offered no opportunity to promote a book, a podcast, anything that could be seen as profiting.”

Among the protestors is Ben Shimkus, the first victim to come forward.

“Just so we are all clear on this, I spoke with producers at @TamronHallShow and told them that I and the 20 victims that I spoke to today DO NOT want them to air a segment with Sherry Pie. They’re going to air it despite the all of our requests,” he wrote on social media.

“I am a survivor of sexual abuse. I watched the @TamronHallShow because I don’t believe ignoring trauma makes it go away. I do believe in addressing it, however, and feel that AT LEAST some of the victims should have been given the same platform,” previous winner Yvie Oddly wrote.

Tamron Hall Faces Backlash for Giving Sherry Pie a Platform with Upcoming Interview

Tamron Hall is facing backlash for an upcoming interview with disgraced drag queen Sherry Pie, who was disqualified from RuPaul’s Drag Race last year.

Sherry Pie, whose real name is Joey Gugliemelli, was accused of catfishing by many men. Gugliemelli allegedly posed as a casting director to have actors send him videos of themselves performing sexual acts as audition tapes. He later released an apology, seemingly admitting to the abuse.

Now, Tamron will be interviewing Sherry Pie on the Tuesday (February 16) episode of her talk show.

Tamron says in a promo, “On the next Tamron Hall, one of the breakout stars of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Sherry Pie, booted from the show after being hit with lewd accusations of catfishing men. For the first time Sherry Pie comes clean. What really happened, next Tamron Hall.”

The talk show host is being slammed on Twitter for giving Sherry Pie a platform and for the language used in the promo, which diminishes the victims.

Da Brat Will Share Her Story of Coming Out on 'Tamron Hall Show'

Da Brat is going to be getting candid about her sexuality.

The 46-year-old superstar will be joined by collaborator Jermaine Dupri as well as her girlfriend Jesseca Dupart to discuss going public with her sexuality on The Tamron Hall Show on Monday (February 1).

“I tell her all the time how beautiful she is. I tell her all the time just all of these different things that I won’t embarrass her too much on television but when I came into her life honestly it was kind of shocking to meet her and she did not know, she did not know that she was as beautiful as she is,” her girlfriend said of Da Brat in the clip.

“She did not know how valuable her heart was. She did not know a lot of things and it was just shocking to me, that how could you be this person, how could you be a legend, how could you be so successful and have all these things going on and really not know?”

“To see her in this space of just comfort, it just allows me to know that… it’s almost back to the same space that she was in when I first met her. She feels she’s at this point, invincible and she can do whatever she wants to do again,” Jermaine says of his friend.

“This is the first time I have ever heard JD mention anything, ever, in my whole life about who I’m dating, what I’m doing, who I’m seeing. They reached out to him to comment when I came out, he turned them down, he wasn’t doing interviews, he really doesn’t interfere with my life. He lets me live and do whatever it is I need to do to make myself happy,” Da Brat says.

Tamar Braxton Reveals She Contemplated Suicide Multiple Times (Video)

Tamar Braxton is opening up about her suicide attempt over the summer.

In her first interview, the 43-year-old reality star sat down with Tamron Hall on Wednesday (October 28), to talk about what happened over the summer, while also revealing that she has contemplated suicide multiple times.

“Were you at home at the time?” Tamron asked Tamar. “Did you take pills?”

After a few moments, Tamar responded: “It’s so hard to say, Tamron, because I feel like there’s a responsibility for- you know, I call them family, my fans, who watch. I don’t want to give any examples. But what I will say is, that was my lowest point of life.”

Tamron then asked if Tamar had ever consider taking her life before.

“I’m just going to be a hundred percent. There has been a time where I wanted to,” Tamar said.

Tamron asked, “But this was the first time you acted on it?” To which Tamar replied, “Yeah.”

Back in July, Tamar‘s then-boyfriend David Adefeso called 911 after he found her unconscious in the Los Angeles hotel room where they were staying. It was reported at the time that she had been drinking and had also taken pills. She was hospitalized, and after a few days of being responsive and receiving treatment, Tamar was transferred to a mental health facility.

Later in the interview with Tamron, Tamar said that she has not attempted since that night.

“It’s been a lot of dark, hard times,” she said. “I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety due to a circumstance.”

Tamar also said that she is not on any medication at the moment, but she is in counseling “every single day.”
