Simon Cowell Teases a Future For 'The X Factor' In Both the US & UK

Good news for fans of The X Factor.

According to Simon Cowell, the popular singing competition series might be making a comeback in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

The U.S. version of the show ran from 2011 to 2013 and famously birthed Fifth Harmony. Meanwhile, the U.K. version has been off-air since 2018 but features a star-studded cast of competitors including One Direction and Little Mix.

Simon told The Sun that fans are clamoring for the show to return.

“The funny thing is that when young people approach me on the street, all they want to know is when X Factor is coming back,” he says. “They all watch it on YouTube.”

He added that networks are approaching him about a U.S. comeback, though nothing is set in stone. A U.K. return is “more likely than not” coming in 2024.

He also shared some insight into the decision to stop the series and why he’d be down for a revival.

“When we stopped the show, I genuinely thought there was no need for it — that everyone would be signed from YouTube,” Simon explained. “But there are so many people wanting to be signed that we could use that extra platform.”

For a comeback, the series must include “some great people and create those TV moments that live forever.”

Don’t expect a star-studded cast of judges, though. “I would also bring back the managers and the A&R [artists and repertoire] people instead of having artists judge the talent because I don’t think that’s great,” he said.
