'Saturday Night Live' Stars Who Broke Character During Sketches

There’s a lot of pressure when it comes to putting on an episode of Saturday Night Live: it is live, after all.

As a result, cast members and hosts need to stick to their scripts closely in order to keep the sketches flowing smoothly – and they also need to keep a straight face as they fly through dozens of jokes every night. But what happens when they…can’t?

Time and time again, we’ve watched over the years as the cast of SNL, and myriad celebrity hosts, absolutely lose it after cracking up at one of the jokes they’ve said, the sheer absurdity of the sketch, or something entirely unexpected happening in a scene. In most cases, it only makes the sketch even more hilarious for the audience watching at home.

We’ve rounded up some of the best moments where the SNL stars have absolutely lost it during a sketch. Some stars have also been banned from the show!

Emily Ratajkowski, Oscar Isaac, & More Stars Make Surprise Appearances on 'Saturday Night Live' - Watch!

Jason Sudeikis was joined by so many surprise guests while hosting Saturday Night Live!

On Saturday (October 23), Emily Ratajkowski, Oscar Isaac, and Nicholas Braun made unexpected appearances in the classic SNL sketch “What’s Up with That? – Halloween Edition” hosted by Kenan Thompson.

In the sketch, Kenan took on the role of Diondre Cole, the host of the BET talk show as he talked to the guests about their Halloween costumes.

Oscar dressed up as a pirate, Emily was a cat, and Nicholas just came dressed up as himself.

Kenan as Diondre didn’t let the stars do much talking, but instead continued singing his repetitive song.

“I woke up this morning and I got out of bed…hid from a ghost and a scary black cat….ooh wee. What’s up with that, what’s up with that?” Kenan as D’Andre sang.

Jason reprised his role as Vance, the overly-excited backup dancer who wore a bright red tracksuit.

Also making an appearance in the sketch was fellow former SNL cast member Fred Armisen, who returned as saxophone playing Giuseppe.
