The Karate Kid cast is steadily growing.

Sony Pictures’ latest installment of its classic martial arts coming-of-age franchise has already found its lead star and romantic lead, as well as some very iconic cameos from the original movies.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the new installment will bring the story to the East Coast and focus on a teen from China who finds strength and direction via martial arts and a tough but wise mentor or two, via THR.

On Monday (February 12), it was revealed that American Born Chinese actor Ben Wang will be starring in the next installment of long-running Karate Kid franchise, which Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan announced back in November 2023.

Amid the news that Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio are returning for a brand new Karate Kid movie, let’s take a look at all the Karate Kid actors who have reprised their roles in the series Cobra Kai.

If you didn’t know, Cobra Kai was originally a YouTube Red series, but then Netflix bought the rights to the show after two seasons and it has grown so much in popularity since then.

The show features the movies’ lead actors Ralph and William Zabka reprising their roles as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, plus there are plenty of other original stars who came back for the television series.

We’re getting a new Karate Kid movie!

On Tuesday (November 21), Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan announced that they will be reprising their roles for a new Karate Kid movie, and they’re currently on a search for a new teen star.

“Hi everyone! We’ve got big news,” Jackie began in their announcement video, before Ralph jumped in with, “We’re starring in a new Karate Kid movie together.”

Sony is making some big changes to their release schedule in the face of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and writers strikes.

Since the actors union began their strike earlier this month, movies on the calendar for a late July release have proceeded as scheduled without any promotional efforts from their casts.

However, Sony is one of the first studios to begin announcing changes that will impact their calendar into 2024 and beyond. One movie that is part of a successful franchise has even been put on an indefinite pause.

Cobra Kai is coming!

The upcoming Karate Kid sequel series, named after the karate dojo, just unveiled a teaser trailer on Thursday (February 15).

“I just don’t know why you’d ever want to bring back Cobra Kai,” Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) tells former high school bully, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) 34 years after their first face-off in the 1984 original.

“We are not trained to be merciful here. Mercy is for the weak,” Johnny instructs his new students.

Cobra Kai also co-stars Xolo Maridueña, Tanner Buchanan, Courtney Henggeler, Mary Mouser and Ed Asner.

The series will debut later this year on YouTube Red.
