Megyn Kelly Breaks Silence on Alex Jones Interview, Calls His Sandy Hook Views 'Revolting'

Megyn Kelly is responding to the intense backlash she’s receiving for interviewing InfoWars’ Alex Jones, who thinks the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in 2012 was a hoax.

The 46-year-old NBC host was relieved of her duties to host a Sandy Hook benefit this week in Washington, DC over the interview.

“I understand and respect the decision of the event organizers but I’m of course disappointed that I won’t be there to support them on Wednesday night,” Megyn told People. “I find Alex Jones‘s suggestion that Sandy Hook was ‘a hoax’ as personally revolting as every other rational person does. It left me, and many other Americans, asking the very question that prompted this interview: how does Jones, who traffics in these outrageous conspiracy theories, have the respect of the president of the United States and a growing audience of millions?”

President Trump, by praising and citing him, appearing on his show, and giving him White House press credentials, has helped elevate Jones, to the alarm of many,” Megyn continued. “Our goal in sitting down with him was to shine a light – as journalists are supposed to do – on this influential figure, and yes – to discuss the considerable falsehoods he has promoted with near impunity.”

If you didn’t know, Alex is the host of InfoWars and is a conspiracy theorist. The interview is slated to air on Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly this Sunday.

Megyn Kelly No Longer Hosting Sandy Hook Benefit Over Alex Jones Interview

Megyn Kelly is facing tons of backlash just weeks after joining NBC after choosing to interview Sandy Hook hoaxer Alex Jones on her show.

As a result, the 46-year-old TV host will no longer be hosting Sandy Hook benefit Promise Champions Gala in Washington D.C. on June 14. Sandy Hook Promise helps to prevent gun violence and was created after the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in December 2012.

“This decision was spurred by NBC’s planned broadcast of Kelly‘s interview with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, who believes the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, CT, was a hoax,” the Sandy Hook Promise organization said in a statement (via Us Weekly).

“Sandy Hook Promise cannot support the decision by Megyn or NBC to give any form of voice or platform to Alex Jones and have asked Megyn Kelly to step down as our Promise Champion Gala host. It is our hope that Megyn and NBC reconsider and not broadcast this interview,” Nicole Hockley, who lost her six-year-old son Dylan in the tragedy, said in a statement. Nicole is one of the co-founders of Sandy Hook Promise.

Megyn has not yet publicly addressed the backlash.

Megyn Kelly Accidentally Snubs Hoda Kotb During 'Today Show' Debut (Video)

Megyn Kelly made her first appearance as an NBC news anchor on The Today Show on Thursday (June 1), but she made a small error while saying hello to the hosts!

The 46-year-old former Fox News anchor was appearing live from St. Petersburg to tease her upcoming interview with Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, and Hoda Kotb were sitting at the anchor desk in New York City while welcoming Megyn to the show for the first time as a team member.

“Hey guys, it’s great to be with you, Matt and Savannah,” she said. When she realized her name wasn’t said, Hoda put her hands into the air in a “what about me?” way!

It’s likely that Megyn didn’t know Hoda was at the desk as people who appear live via satellite usually are just given an audio feed, not a video feed.
