Netflix has chosen to cancel Spinning Out after just one season.

The show, starring Kaya Scodelario, January Jones and Willow Shields, premiered at the beginning of the new year and quickly picked up a following on social media. However, it wasn’t enough to give it a second season.

Spinning Out centered on Kat, a high-level singles skater who reinvents her career following an injury as a pairs skater.

The final episode focused on Kat and her new pairs partner as they competed for a spot at Nationals. Fans will never know the outcome of that, as that bit would’ve been revealed in season two.

The first trailer for Netflix’s new drama series, Spinning Out, shows off the dark side of competitive figure skating.

The series centers on Kat Baker (Kaya Scodelario), who, after a devastating fall threatens her competitive skating career, seizes an opportunity to pursue her Olympic dreams, but at the risk of losing everything.

Spinning Out follows Kat as she battles her personal demons and faces drama both on and off the ice.

January Jones and Willow Shields also star in the show, which premiere on New Year’s Day, January 1st.

January Jones is joining the cast of Spinning Out!

The 41-year-old Mad Men actress will play lead opposite Kaya Scodelario in the upcoming Netflix figure skating drama series, Deadline confirmed on Wednesday (January 16).

Spinning Out follows Kat Baker (Scodelario), an up-and-coming, high-level single skater who’s about to turn in her skates after a disastrous fall took her off the competition track. When Kat seizes an opportunity to continue her career as a pair skater with talented bad-boy partner Justin (Evan Roderick), she risks exposing a fiercely kept secret that could unravel her entire life. On and off the ice, Kat and Justin will face daunting odds, injury to body and soul, financial sacrifice, and even potential mental breakdown on their way to realizing their Olympic dream.

January will play Carol Baker, Kat (Scodelario) and Serena’s (Willow Shields) mother. Carol is a former high-level figure skater who had to forfeit her dreams when she became pregnant with her oldest daughter at a young age. The head of the Baker family, Carol fiercely pushes both her girls to become Olympians in order to fulfill the dream she could never achieve herself. Simultaneously, she struggles with personal demons that threaten to ruin her relationship with her daughters, the thing she values about all else.

Johnny Weir, Sarah Wright Olsen, Will Kemp, Kaitlyn Leeb, Amanda Zhou and Mitchell Edwards are all set to star.
