Billy Bush Speaks Out About NBC Firing Matt Lauer

Billy Bush is speaking out after NBC fired his former Today show co-host Matt Lauer.

The men worked together on the morning program until Billy was fired for his presence during Donald Trump‘s infamous Access Hollywood scandal.

Recently the network also fired Matt following sexual harassment allegations.

“How do you feel about NBC firing you especially in light of Matt Lauer being fired for allegations of actual sexual impropriety?” Billy was asked during a Late Show appearance.

“Look it was a difficult time, it was very hot emotionally in the country. A lot of people were not comfortable with the man who was close to winning the election, and a lot of things happened quickly,” Billy responded.

Billy added that at the time Matt “took the line” with their boss to prevent Billy from being fired but his boss later admitted they “may have moved a little quickly” in firing him.

Billy Bush Pens Essay About 'Access Hollywood' Tape Scandal: 'Yes, Donald Trump, You Said That'

Billy Bush is firing back at the President of the United States after recent reports have surfaced suggesting Donald Trump is claiming the now-infamous Access Hollywood tape leaked in October 2016 isn’t real.

President Trump is currently indulging in some revisionist history, reportedly telling allies, including at least one United States senator, that the voice on the tape is not his. This has hit a raw nerve in me,” Billy wrote in a New York Times essay published on Sunday (December 3).

“He said it. ‘Grab ‘em by the p–y.’ Of course he said it. And we laughed along, without a single doubt that this was hypothetical hot air from America’s highest-rated bloviator,” he wrote about the recording, which Trump previously dismissed as “locker-room banter.”

Billy Bush Breaks Silence on Trump's Lewd Leaked Audio: 'I Didn't Have the Strenght of Character' to Change the Subject

Billy Bush takes the cover of THR‘s latest issue to explain his side of the story with regards to that infamous lewd leaked audio with Donald Trump.

Here’s what the 45-year-old former TV personality had to share:

On the actual conversation: “Looking back on what was said on that bus, I wish I had changed the topic…[Trump] liked TV and competition. I could’ve said, ‘Can you believe the ratings on whatever?’ I didn’t have the strength of character to do it.”

On what happened when the tape leaked: “I put together an apology right away… I told people that I was ashamed and embarrassed. And I was. So in the beginning, I thought, ‘OK, we’ll go and own up to this moment. Then I got home, and it started to become apparent that [I] would not be returning [to "Today"]. It hurt a lot, and I fell apart.”

On his comeback to TV: “There’s a process that needs to take place because you just can’t come back; it has to have changed you in some way. But I plan to return to the job that I love, which is television, communicating, interviewing people.”
