Glee's Darren Criss Mourns the Loss of Naya Rivera with Touching Words

Darren Criss is speaking out with a tribute for Naya Rivera after her shocking death.

The 33-year-old Glee actress, who won the hearts of fans with her work as Santana Lopez, was declared dead on Monday (July 13) after her body was discovered in California’s Lake Piru.

Darren opened up about Naya‘s immense talent, how she always made him laugh, and the way she took care of the ones she loved.

“She was bold. She was outrageous. She was a LOT of fun. Naya made me laugh like no one else on that set. I always said it while we were working together and I’ve maintained it ever since. Her playful, wicked sense of humor never ceased to bring a smile to my face,” Darren began in a thread on Twitter.

He continued, “She played by her own rules and was in a class of her own. She had a brashness about her that I couldn’t help but be enchanted by. I also always loved her voice, and savored every chance I got to hear her sing. I think she had more talent than we would have ever been able to see.”

“I was constantly moved by the degree to which she took care of her family, and how she looked out for her friends. She showed up for me on numerous occasions where she didn’t have to, and I was always so grateful for her friendship then, as I certainly am now,” Darren said.

“And even as I sit here, struggling to comprehend, gutted beyond description- the very thought of her cracks me up and still brings a smile to my face. That was Naya’s gift.
And it’s a gift that will never go away,” he concluded. “Rest in peace you wild, hilarious, beautiful angel.”

In his tribute to Naya, Glee‘s Kevin McHale talked about the plans that the two of them made just last week. More Here! »

Glee's Darren Criss & Wife Mia Hold Hands On a Coffee Run

Darren Criss holds hands with his wife Mia while stepping out for some coffee on Wednesday afternoon (July 8) in Los Feliz, Calif.

The 33-year-old former Glee actor and Mia both wore protective face masks and Darren wore the same one that Britney Spears‘ boyfriend Sam Asghari was seen wearing.

Sam made headlines back in April because a lot of people thought that he was wearing an athletic cup that men put into jock straps while playing sports. It’s actually a real model of face masks though!

If you haven’t yet, make sure to check out Darren in the new limited series Hollywood, which is now streaming on Netflix.

Darren won an Emmy Award when he appeared in the limited series The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. Can he do it again?!

Darren Criss Mourns the Death of His Dad - Read His Touching Post

Darren Criss is mourning the death of his father, Charles William Criss Jr.

The 33-year-old former Glee actor took to Instagram on Monday (April 27) to pay tribute to his late father in a touching post.

Bill Criss has left the building. After many years of coping with a rare heart condition — which, true to his form, very few would have even been aware of — he finally checked out peacefully yesterday morning, surrounded by his loved ones,” Darren wrote in his statement.

“Dad lived an extraordinary life,” he continued. “Anyone who ever met Bill Criss adored him instantly. He could talk to anyone about anything. Well-read and well-traveled, he made the world a better place wherever he went. He was as deliriously charming as he was relentlessly selfless; always putting other people first, making anybody who ever got into a conversation with him genuinely feel like they were the most incredible person in the room. And although he would have been the first to gracefully protest it, the simple truth is that he was in fact, every inch the exemplary man: a devoted husband, an outstanding father, a loving grandparent. He lived his days the same way he loved his friends and family — with an unwavering sense of composure, compassion, generosity, and humility.”

“He was a true gentleman through and through, and was a constant source of joy and inspiration for me,” Darren added. “I’ve spent most of my life trying to be like him, wanting to see and do all the incredible things he did — and I’m so grateful he was around to see me actually pull a few off. He was there for the greatest moments of my life, which of course, he always dressed up for. His kind blue eyes, big laugh, and infamous warm smile could not have been a better representation of who he was to his core… I cherished him every day, and will forever.”

We’re sending our thoughts and condolences to the Criss family during this difficult time.
