During the episode’s “New York Musical” sketch, which featured Pete and Chris Redd browsing in a Times Square souvenir shop run by host John Mulaney, he asked to try on a pair of “unwashed” I Heart NY underwear and discovered the back room was filled with people in costumes.

John asks Pete if he still wants to buy the underwear despite the store’s conditions.

“I love New York, and I want my modest bulge to show that,” Pete replied, nearly breaking character laughing.

Fans Think Ariana Grande Is Subtly Dissing Pete Davidson With This 'Positions' Lyric

In the opening of the song, she sings “I’m just hoping I don’t repeat history.”

Some fans online believe that “repeat” was a play on words, as in “re-Pete,” and that there’s an intentionally long pause in between the syllables in “repeat.”

“wait wait wait. did ariana say ‘I’m just hopin I don’t re..PETE history” SHADY BITCH,” a user wrote.

“well idk if this is obvious but: when Ariana says: ‘Heaven sent you to me I’m just hopin’ I don’t re-PEAT history’ PEAT = PETE, and in pete davidson song she says: ‘Fell from the sky into my lap’ soo yeah that kinda relates i guess,” one fan wrote.

Ariana : I don’t re * long ass pause* peat (PETE) history,” another fan tweeted.

“I long for a few young years ago when the worst things she did were those Fantastic Beasts movies. No discrimination there, they harmed us all equally,” he joked on the show.

He defended his six Harry Potter tattoos, saying he “didn’t know that J.K. Rowling was going to go all Mel Gibson,.”

“I have a Game of Thrones tattoo and now I’m terrified [author] George R.R. Martin is going to be like, ‘Hey, if you enjoyed what I had to say about dragons and dire wolves, wait till you hear what I think about Puerto Ricans.’ It’s crazy times we live in! It’s not fair.”

“What’s wrong with her? She creates a seven-book fantasy series about all types of mythical creatures living in harmony with wizards and elves and the one thing she can’t wrap her head around is Laverne Cox? She’s a national treasure,” he continued.

One of the Harry Potter stars also recently came out against J. K. Rowling.
