Elliot Page Cries Tears of Joy While Describing His Transition

Elliot Page is opening up about coming out as transgender, and getting emotional.

The 34-year-old Juno actor spoke to Oprah Winfrey for an interview airing on Apple TV+ on Friday (April 30), which was teased on Good Morning America.

“With this platform I have, the privilege that I have, and knowing the pain and difficulties and struggles I faced in my life, let alone what so many other people are facing, it absolutely felt crucial and important to share that,” he said of publicly coming out as transgender at the end of 2020.

Elliot Page Talks His True Identity, Says He 'Knew I Was a Boy When I Was a Toddler'

Elliot Page is opening up.

In a new interview with Vanity Fair, the 34-year-old Umbrella Academy actor talked about his coming out journey, saying that he’s always known his true gender.

“All trans people are so different, and my story’s absolutely just my story. But yes, when I was a little kid, absolutely, 100%, I was a boy,” Elliot said. “I knew I was a boy when I was a toddler. I was writing fake love letters and signing them ‘Jason.’ Every little aspect of my life, that is who I was, who I am, and who I knew myself to be.”

“I just couldn’t understand when I’d be told, ‘No, you’re not. No, you can’t be that when you’re older,’” Elliot recalled. “You feel it. Now I’m finally getting myself back to feeling like who I am, and it’s so beautiful and extraordinary, and there’s a grief to it in a way.”

Elliot first came out as transgender back in December 2020. At the time, he received support from wife Emma Portner, but revealed several weeks later that they had been separated for months.

Eliot recently sat down with Oprah Winfrey for an interview airing on Apple TV+ on Friday, April 30. You can watch the teaser below.

On how he feels after coming out: “This feeling of true excitement and deep gratitude to have made it to this point in my life mixed with a lot of fear and anxiety.”

On his marriage to Emma Portner, which ended last year: “We’ve remained close friends.”

On the isolation of the pandemic helping him understand his gender identity: “I had a lot of time on my own to really focus on things that I think, in so many ways, unconsciously, I was avoiding..I was finally able to embrace being transgender and letting myself fully become who I am.”

On his decision to get top surgery: “It has completely transformed my life.”

On having his platform: “My privilege has allowed me to have resources to get through and to be where I am today and of course I want to use that privilege and platform to help in the ways I can.”

On how he defines his sexuality right now: “During our interviews, Page will repeatedly refer to himself as a ‘transgender guy.’ He also calls himself nonbinary and queer, but for him, transmasculinity is at the center of the conversation right now. ‘It’s a complicated journey,’ he says, ‘and an ongoing process.’”

Six 'Umbrella Academy' Cast Members Team Together, Get Big Pay Raises!

Six cast members from The Umbrella Academy – one of Netflix‘s biggest hits, have banded together to earn pay raises for the upcoming third season.

Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin Min were the cast members that approached higher-ups together and will now earn over $200,000 per episode.

You may be wondering why the show’s star, Elliot Page, is not listed among his cast members. Variety reports that Elliot also received a pay increase but was not involved with the group’s decision to go in together. Elliot was paid a higher rate to begin with because of his star power before the show debuted. The source added that Elliot was “supportive of the group’s effort.”

Ruby Rose Replaces Elliot Page in Comedy '1Up' After Divorce News

Ruby Rose has replaced Elliot Page in the upcoming esports comedy 1Up, currently in production in Toronto, Canada.

Also joining the film are Taylor Zakhar Perez, Hari Nef, and Nicholas Coombe.

According to THR, the comedy “centers on a young woman named Valerie Lee, who “quits her college esports team, fed up with gaslighting from her male counterparts, and quickly realizes that her decision comes at the cost of her scholarship. But, she discovers a loophole to save her collegiate future: if she can find a coach and assemble a whole new varsity-caliber team capable of reaching the State Finals. Valerie turns to her professor, Parker Nesby, and together with Valerie’s best friend and fellow gamer Sloane, they form and train a rag-tag women’s team committed to taking down the boys that tried to shut them out of gaming in the first place.”

Elliot‘s exit from the movie comes just one day after some major news about his personal life was released.

Elliot Page & Emma Portner Release Statement Confirming Divorce, Reveal When They Separated

Earlier today, it was revealed that Elliot Page and Emma Portner are divorcing. Now, they have released a statement and actually revealed that they have been separated since the summer of 2020.

“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our separation last summer,” the 33-year-old Juno star and 26-year-old dancer said in a statement (via THR). “We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends.”

Elliot filed for divorce on Tuesday (January 26) in the Manhattan Supreme Court.

Elliot came out as transgender in December of 2020. At the time, Emma showed her support for Elliott with this supportive comment, despite the fact that they were already separated at the time.

The pair officially announced their marriage in January of 2018.
