The first season of Netflix’s new reality competition series, Squid Game: The Challenge, has officially ended.

The season finale episode was added to the streamer on Wednesday night (December 6) and now we can talk about the winner.

Heading into the finale, there were three contestants remaining in the game: Sam aka 016, Mai aka 287, and Phill aka 451.

'Squid Game: The Challenge' Renewed, Season 2 Ordered By Netflix!

Netflix has announced that Squid Game: The Challenge has been renewed for season 2, just hours ahead of the season 1 finale.

The finale drops on the streaming service tonight at 9pm ET / 6pm PT. The winner will receive a cash prize of $4.56 million.

'Squid Game's Contestant 301 Calls Out 198 for Failed Phone Call Challenge: 'Dude Was a Clown'

Trey, who is contestant 301 on Squid Game: The Challenge, is calling out Husnain, who is playing 198.

This post will contain some spoilers for episode two, so beware of reading further if you don’t want to be spoiled.

In episode 2, there is a test that happens in the dormitory when a phone rings. Husnain is the first person to pick up the phone, hoping he’d be given the power to eliminate someone. Instead, he’s gifted a hamburger and fries, which all the other players steal from him in the end.

When the phone rings again, he’s given a challenge. He has to find someone else to pick up the phone within two minutes or else he’ll be eliminated from the game. He tries to get someone else to pick up the phone by saying the gamemakers are offering a chocolate muffin to whoever picks up the phone.

Netflix has turned the smash hit drama series Squid Game into a reality competition series called Squid Game: The Challenge, which features 456 real people living out the challenges in the fictional series.

Of course, no one actually dies in the reality version of the show, but everything else is pretty much the same!

The season begins with the “Red Light, Green Light” challenge in which contestants have five minutes to run across the field, but must stand absolutely still whenever the music isn’t playing. Anyone who is seen moving even slightly gets eliminated.

Is the 'Squid Game' Reality Show Rigged? Producers Respond to Accusations From Contestants

The new reality series Squid Game: The Challenge just debuted on Netflix and it has faced some controversy for the past year ever since the show was filmed in January 2023.

Contestants spoke out and claimed that the show was rigged, with some under the belief that the show was scripted with storylines figured out in advance.

“I started to realize, this was never a game I could win,” a participant told Vice. “I’m not a contestant, I’m an extra.”

Even though the opening challenge “Red Light, Green Light” was supposed to take place over the course of just five minutes, contestants claim that it actually was an all-day ordeal with some saying they were in the freezing cold hangar for up to 15 hours.
