Jamie Foxx Reveals Which Director Called Him 'Horrible' to His Face

Robert De Niro, Adam Driver, Jamie Foxx, Tom Hanks, Shia LaBeouf, and Adam Sandler are on the cover of The Hollywood Reporter‘s actor roundtable issue.

Here’s what they had to share with the mag…

Jamie, on the director who told him he was “horrible”: “I remember Oliver Stone, when I first auditioned [for Any Given Sunday], he was like, ‘You’re horrible.’ And I was like, ‘What?’ He was like, ‘Just get the f*ck out of here.’ As I’m walking out he said, ‘Jamie Foxx, slave to television.’ But I learned from that toughness.”

Shia, on whether he discovered anything that helped his acting during his time in a mental institution: “Yeah, empathy for my father, who was always the biggest villain in my life. And if you can empathize with the biggest villain in your life and scrape some of these shadows, it makes you lighter and freer.”

Robert, on advice he’d give his younger self: “I was saying something to my grandson the other day: Just be calm. When things are going well, be calm. Don’t think you’re on top of the world. I’ve seen people come, I’ve seen people go. You’ve got to be chill. You’ve got to take what’s good in your life and move forward cautiously and carefully.”

Tom, on advice he’d give his younger self: “I wish I had known that this too shall pass. You feel bad right now, you feel pissed off, you feel angry. This too shall pass.”

Brad Pitt Tells His Favorite Adam Sandler Story & Adam Confirms Every Detail Is True

Brad Pitt and Adam Sandler interviewed each other for their Variety actor-on-actor cover.

In the cover story, Brad recalled one of his favorite stories Adam has ever told him, and we’ll relay the conversation here!

“You were talking about your time at NYU. This is my favorite Adam Sandler story [...] It was that you were at NYU, and it was an acting coach, I believe,” Brad said. “And he said to you, ‘I want to take you out for a beer.’ This is what I’m told. You guys went to a bar, and he kindly said to you: ‘Think about something else. You have to choose another path.’ Truth?”

Adam responded, “Exactly.”

Brad continued, “There’s a second part to this story. This is why it’s my favorite Adam Sandler story, and I think it says a lot about you. That you ran into him at your height, when you’re getting the ultimate payday, and you’re with a bunch of friends, out at a bar. Anyone would think that’s the opportunity where you rub it in his face. And reportedly, what you did was you introduced him to your friends, and you said: ‘This is the only teacher to ever buy me a beer.’ True?”

Adam confirmed, “Yeah.”
