'Californication' Ending Run After Upcoming Seventh Season

The long-running series Californication starring David Duchovny will be ending its run after its upcoming seventh season.

The twelve episode season will premiere in April and will be ending while it is still on top. The ratings for the show have grown steadily throughout the series and reached its top rated season for the sixth season.

“With its unique blend of lyricism and excess, Californication has been one of our groundbreaking signature series,” said Showtime entertainment president David Nevins. “We will always be indebted to Tom Kapinos for leading the creative charge on this memorable comedy, and to David Duchovny for making us root for an unapologetic hedonist like Hank Moody.”

Tom has carefully planned the final chapter of Hank’s journey and has brought it to a beautiful and satisfying conclusion for new and long-time fans alike,” he added.

David Duchovny & Gillian Anderson: 'X Files' 20th Anniversary!

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson hit the red carpet at the X Files 20th Anniversary Panel held at the Paley Center for Media on Saturday evening (October 12) in New York City.

The actors did a special Reddit AMA the day before and fueled rumors for a third X Files film.

“I think Chris Carter is working on a script,” David said. “Chris is shooting a pilot right now, so he might not be working on a script, but he claims to be working on a script, and if he does do that and Fox wants to make it … Gillian will do it, I will do it, so start your writing campaign now. Seriously. We’d all love to do it. The ball is in Fox’s hands. And not Fox Mulder, Fox the studio.”

FYI: Gillian is wearing a Temperley London dress.

David Duchovny Covers 'Los Angeles Confidential' September 2012

David Duchovny and his Californication co-star Natascha McElhone heat up the September 2012 cover of Los Angeles Confidential.

Here is what the 52-year-old actor had to share with the mag:

On how his character impacts his personal life: “I’ve never been the kind of actor who has to live a certain way in order to play a certain guy, so there hasn’t been any of that. It made me less frantic artistically, trying to show something, trying to prove something. Being able to succeed in this role comedically-and so different from The X Files-made me less insecure, less irritable and more aware of what I can do. Rather than saying, ‘Hey, I’m funny, guys! I’m funny. I’m funny,’ just going and being able to do it meant a lot to me, as a professional and as a person.”

On how he thinks Californication will end: “Part of me wants to get to repercussions. I don’t think Hank is going to die, but I always wanted him to die. I thought that would be a great way to end the show: It just catches up with him, eventually. My image was that he was going to marry Karen on his deathbed, basically, and that he was going to get it all. And not be able to enjoy it.”
