Zac Efron & Jeremy Allen White Discuss Their Diet & Learning to Wrestle for 'The Iron Claw'

On learning to wrestle for the movie…

“We have some pretty funny iPhone footage of us seeing our wrestling for the first time,” Zac told the outlet.

“I was like, ‘Oh, that’s what it looks like,’” Jeremy agreed. “‘Got some work to do.’”

They explained that it was tough to master the Von Erich family’s Iron Claw move, which involves grabbing your competitor by the face and squeezing. Harris explained that it “hurt.”

“It’s harder when you can’t squeeze someone’s head for real, so you have to create the idea that you are inflicting pain with just the squeeze of your hand and the shake,” he said. “After a while, your forearms are cramping up, and you feel silly, like ‘My arm! I can’t do this anymore!’”

Despite the pain, Harris is seemingly a pro at the move; Zac said that his claw was “killer.”

The actors were quick to compliment each other’s skills.

“I was blown away on the first day that you guys came to work. You were jumping off ropes and doing huge hits,” Zac recalled. Jeremy was equally complimentary in return telling him, “I never saw you not good at anything.”
