'This Is Us' Loses an Emmy Nomination in Costumes Category

This Is Us has lost one of its 11 nominations for the 2017 Emmy Awards after it was determined that the show was ineligible in the category.

The show’s nomination in the Outstanding Costumes for a Contemporary Series, Limited Series or Movie has been revoked after it was determined that the episode submitted does not meet the qualifications.

To be eligible in the category, at least 51 percent of the action in the episode must take place within the past 25 years, but the season finale episode “Moonshadow,” which is what NBC submitted, features most of its action in the 1970s.

“Having reviewed the ‘Moonshadow’ episode of This Is Us, the Awards Committee noted that the entrant unfortunately miscalculated the proportion of scenes that were period versus contemporary,” the Television Academy told THR in a statement. “In fact, the episode is predominately period. The entry (and subsequent nomination) are thereby disqualified. The sixth-place vote-getter — now the fifth nomination — will be identified by the accountants and will be revealed when the Television Academy’s final round viewing platform opens on Monday.”

The show still has 10 nominations, including one for Outstanding Drama Series.

Emmys 2017: Why Wasn't 'Game of Thrones' Nominated?

Why didn’t Game of Thrones receive any Emmy nominations this year after dominating the nominations last year?

Well, the hit HBO drama fell out of the eligibility window for this year’s awards. So, season seven of the show will be in contention for the 2018 Emmy Awards.

For the 2016 Emmys, the drama earned 23 nominations and won 12 trophies, including Outstanding Drama Series.

Season seven will kick off this Sunday, and will star Kit Harington as Jon Snow, Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister, Bella Ramsey as Lyanna Mormont, Liam Cunningham as Davos Seaworth, John Bradley as Samwell Tarly, Hannah Murray as Gilly, Ellie Kendrick as Meera Reed, Isaac Hempstead Wright as Bran Stark, Kristofer Hivju as Tormund Giantsbane, Gwendoline Christie as Brienne of Tarth, Aidan Gillen as Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish, Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark, Rory McCann as Sandor “The Hound” Clegane, Maisie Williams as Arya Stark, Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Conleth Hill as Varys, and Nathalie Emmanuel as Missandei.

CBS Donates 'Mom' Emmy Campaign Budget to Planned Parenthood

Instead of spending money on an Emmy Awards campaign for the comedy Mom this year, CBS has announced plans to donate the budget to Planned Parenthood.

Allison Janney has joined forces with Mom co-creator and executive producer Chuck Lorre to help raise awareness for the organization amid the American Health Care Act’s threat to PP’s funding.

“In Los Angeles County alone, we answer approximately 2,000 calls each day from people asking us for help,” said Sue Dunlap, president-CEO of Planned Parenthood Los Angeles. “Across the country, millions of women and men are relying on Planned Parenthood health centers for their basic care — like birth control, life-saving cancer-screenings, and STD testing and treatment. We are committed to being here for them, no matter what. Generous support from our community fuels this work, and we are honored that the team behind Mom is launching this campaign at this critical time.”

Allison won Emmys for her work on Mom in 2014 and 2015.

Billions' Asia Kate Dillon Will Compete in Supporting Actor Category at Emmys

Asia Kate Dillon, the new gender non-binary actor starring on the third season of Billions, has come to a decision about eligibility for the upcoming 2017 Emmy Awards.

After questioning the gender-specific acting categories in a latter to the Television Academy, Dillon has decided to be considered in the Best Supporting Actor category.

“What I learned through my research is that the word ‘actor,’ specifically in reference to those who performed in plays, came about in the late 1500s as a non-gendered word,” Asia said (via Variety). “It applied to all people, regardless of anatomical sex or gender identity.”

The Television Academy allows anyone to submit under either the Actor or Actress categories for any reason.

“The Academy supports anyone’s choice to do that, and the Academy is not going to do any sort of check,” Asia said. “I found them to be 100% supportive. I really couldn’t have been happier.”
