The 27-year-old actor recently spoke with the LA Times about coming out as a gay man. He shared, “Ultimately everyone has their own journey. The more people that come out the better, because it makes it easier for the next generation of people coming out, and it makes [straight] people more comfortable with it, the more people they know. But at the end of the day, if people don’t want to come out, it’s their personal choice. I feel really blessed to be living in 2012. Certainly there’s a long way to go, but I feel really positive about how, even in the last 10 years, being gay has become more accepted.”

About coming out early in his career: “I sort of always knew, in the back of my mind, that when the moment arrived for me to come out, I would. I wasn’t yanked out of the closet. When I came out, people said it may have a negative effect on my career, and that’s definitely something I thought about before I did it. But I don’t hold that belief. I just go on my auditions and plug away as I normally would. At the end of my career, I can look back and ask, ‘Well, did it, or didn’t it?’ But at the moment, I just have to move forward and hope that people will follow my actions.”

On his character in the hit show Boss: “He’s this young, super-ambitious, smart guy, and he’ll do whatever it takes to get ahead.”

On his two past vices: “The first was to stop drinking Diet Coke because, I kid you not, I used to drink five or six a day. I was addicted. And I decided to stop looking at myself on the Internet.”
