Luke Bryan is Messing Up These Two Words in the National Anthem Ahead of Super Bowl 2017

Luke Bryan is busy getting ready to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the 2017 Super Bowl tonight.

The 40-year-old country singer will belt out the National Anthem before the New England Patriots take on the Atlanta Falcons – and he’s been practicing a lot.

“I’ve kind of just been hanging around the house, singing,” Luke told Rolling Stone. “Singing in the stairwell, singing in the shower, singing for my boys. I just tried to get a lot of – I know it sounds like a sports reference – but get a lot of reps in.”

“I’m not really thinking about it in what it can do for my career,” Luke continued. “I just hope that when I walk off that stage, people go, ‘Man, he really did a great job capturing the anthem,’ and ‘He really surprised us.’ I hope people go, ‘Wow, we didn’t really think he had that in him.’”

As for the lyrics themselves, he said, “I had just written down ‘streaming’ and ‘gleaming’ because for some reason during rehearsals I kept jumbling those up. Then I started psyching myself out on it. I thought I did a great job on the Anthem, but the unfortunate thing was people saw me checking those two words. I learned from it, and you know, I’m just gonna walk out there and sing it and go from there.”

Luke Bryan Reveals His Pick to Win Super Bowl 2017

Luke Bryan answers reporter questions at the Super Bowl LI Pregame Show Press Conference on Thursday (February 2) in Houston, Tex.

The 40-year-old entertainer will be singing the National Anthem before the game – he’s the first male National Anthem singer at the Super Bowl since Billy Joel sang the song 10 years ago at the big game.

“I have to let it be known, in most years I can be pretty neutral in who is gonna win the Super Bowl. I grew up in Georgia, so I definitely gotta pull for my Falcons,” Luke said. He was reluctant to give an answer though, because he has headlined at Gillette stadium (where the Patriots play!)

If you missed it, watch Lady Gaga‘s press conference – she’ll be singing at the halftime show!

Tune in to watch Luke sing on Sunday (February 5).

Luke Bryan Will Sing National Anthem at Super Bowl 2017

Luke Bryan is set to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the upcoming 2017 Super Bowl!

The 40-year-old singer will belt out the National Anthem prior to the big game on February 5 in Houston, Texas.

“I said, ‘Hell yes, I’ll do it!’” Luke told People about being asked. “Is the anthem challenging? Yes. Is it nerve-wracking? Yes. But I moved to Nashville to follow my dreams and singing the national anthem on that stage doesn’t get any bigger.”

He also said, “I never served in the military — that’s something I wish I had had the opportunity to do, but I feel like this is my way of honoring my country. It’s a little chance to serve.”

As for who he’s rooting for, Luke hopes the Atlanta Falcons will be playing that night.

“I’ve [got] to lean toward my Georgia roots,” he said. “I’m a huge Atlanta Falcons fan and it would be amazing if my Falcons make it….I’ll be focused on the anthem. And once I walk off that field and shake off that pressure, I’ll be ready to enjoy some football.”

Luke Bryan's Rep Explains Why He Hit Man in Front Row

A rep for Luke Bryan has released a statement on the incident in which the country singer hit a man in the front row at his concert.

The moment happened at the Charlie Daniels All-Star Volunteer Jam event on Wednesday night (November 30) in Nashville, Tenn.

“A man in [the] front row was making crude hand gestures toward Luke during his performance,” the statement read (via Billboard). “It was insulting not only to him, but more importantly to the men, women and families sitting around him who were there to support and celebrate Charlie Daniels and the efforts of raising money for the military veterans — some of who were in the audience. The concert security personnel saw the man’s disruptive actions of the event and he was escorted out.”

You can see the moment in the video below.
