Nicole Richie and son Sparrow feed a giraffe at the Taronga Zoo while hubby Joel Madden and daughter Harlow watch from a distance on Wednesday (May 16) in Sydney, Australia.

The 30-year-old fashion designer posted a picture of the giraffe on her blog with the caption, “Thank you Taronga Zoo for introducing me to the love of my life.”

Nicole has been hard at work designing lately – she recently announced an upcoming collaboration with Macy’s! Her limited edition collection will be available starting in September.

Here’s what the 30-year-old Fashion Star mentor had to share:

On her hairstyle: “I have naturally curly hair, so ‘natural’ beach waves are not so natural for me. I like to braid my hair at night and then let it out the next day. And I also curl my hair with a flatiron. I actually think I’m the best hairstylist on the planet … I’m mixed, and it’s work to do my hair, so I learned how to do it well myself. I would be a hairstylist. I actually like to go to the salon and blow out people’s hair.”

On her love for reality TV: “You know, [my husband] Joel [Madden] barely speaks all day, and then out of nowhere he has 9 million things to say, only for 30 minutes, from 9:00 to 9:30 P.M., when I’m watching Real Housewives.”

On her favorite moment of the day: “When I wake up at 5:30 a.m. and it’s still dark out. I love, love being alone. It helps me to be a better mom to my kids and a better person at work.”

Nicole Richie attends NBC Universal’s summer press day held at The Langham Huntington on Wednesday (April 18) in Pasadena, Calif.

The 30-year-old designer, joined by fellow Fashion Star mentor John Varvatos, promoted their reality competition, while Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton talked to reporters about The Voice.

“I am here to hold their hands and go through the journey with them and encourage them to be themselves and listen to buyers,” Nicole told Zap2It about helping aspiring designers on the show.

“I understand there is a difference between being an artist and being a businessperson,” she added, “and pushing them to express their individuality as a designer and make that transition from designer to building a brand.”

Nicole Richie and hubby Joel Madden spend a fun-filled day at the beach with their two little ones, Harlow and Sparrow, on Monday (April 9) in Malibu, Calif.

The family threw around a ball while having fun in the sun. Little Harlow looked so cute in her two piece bikini!
